Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 7/19

Matt Rose|Jul 18, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 251 - 759 / $1,281.20 (-$236.80)

BEST BETS: 37 - 70 / $150.20 (+$10.20)

Best Bet: PJ LOU (9th)

Spot Play: CAVIART CHERIE (6th)

Race 1: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) OAKWOODNITTOWINIT IR took some money from the eight hole last week but never got involved. Prior start he was second best to the 1:50 3/5 winner and tonight it's a whole new ballgame with the move all the way inside. (4) FAMILY RECIPE is an interesting shipper from Ohio for Virgil Morgan, Jr; gelding has been a solid earner there and looks like a good fit here. (3) ROCK LIGHTS was going well in the late stages last week and he's the one most likely to pick up the pieces if the top ones falter.

Race 2: NY Excelsior A 3YO C&G Trot

(1) MAKADUSHIN N CHEEZ is fresh off an easy wire-to-wire win up at Monticello and Bartlett drove that day, as he does again tonight. Assuming no mishaps he's strictly the one to catch. (3) GREY CLOUDS also wired a field upstate for Dan Daley, who is always well represented with NY breds. (5) DOWN THE PIKE MIKE lands the outermost post, but it's a compact field so he'll never be too far back. Stratton picks up the drive on the Erv Miller trainee, who has held his own this season in the earning department.

Race 3: NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(5) HECANDANCENCRUISE has only one win on the season but it did come in his latest effort, a solid score where he drew away from the field at Philly at odds-on. Harder trainee can double-up here. (4) MAKE MY DEO went well in his local debut when finishing third with a nice back half; Bartlett gets the drive and he appears to be the main threat to the top one. (1) DANCING JOE has done nothing in four seasonal starts but he is second-time Lasix and he draws best; small share?

Race 4: NW2 races or $25,000 lifetime Pace

Interesting race here with four shippers arriving for live barns. (2) COLD CREEK FELIPE ships in from Canada for Andrew Harris off a win on the 'B' circuit and picks up Bartlett. Prior horses from this mold have been successful. (3) PICK A GENRE is now first-time Jenn Bongiorno coming from Running Aces and she's got some of those magical lines from the Iowa fair circuit. (1) LATEST ERA was sharp both at Ocean Downs and in his home state of Indiana. (4) SHARKY BEAR goes first-time Burke, always a powerful angle.

Race 5: NY Excelsior A 3YO C&G Trot

(3) BY THE BOOK is a youngster from the connections who bring you Melady's Monet. He has just one win in six tries this season but has been right there in every start, including in a NYSS test back in May. (6) CREDARENA was decent in a couple of local starts last month and the outside post shouldn't be a major concern with only six horses signed on; Bartlett gets the catch-drive. (1) DEBS PRINCE HALL threw in a break last week at Monti which is a bit concerning.

Race 6: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

Wide-open, evenly-matched race. I'll give (7) CAVIART CHERIE another try. She faltered last week when put on the front end but closed sharply the start prior and she's classy enough to go with these. Good price looming, as well.(2) VELOCITY MCSWEETS successfully dropped and popped last out and she hails from live connections. (1) LOOKATMYART seems logical enough moving from the eight hole all the way inside.

Race 7: NYSS 3YO C&G Trot

(2) COOL PAPA BELL broke before the start in the Zweig but prior to that debacle he had been enjoying a solid season, and also hinted at ability as a freshman. Sears will likely be stalking (1) MOLOTOV COCKTAIL and could be sharpest late. The latter was the NYSS champ from a season ago (beating the top choice) but it seems like he isn't quite as sharp yet this year. (5) CHAPHEART jogged at Monti last week with Smedshammer driving and now Bartlett gets the call. Will be interesting if he tries firing from the gate and can cross over the inside two.

Race 8: NYSS 3YO C&G Trot

(1) QUINCY MARKET recently moved to the Devita barn and has woken up taking two straight. He's an obvious threat to take this small field coast to coast. (4) CASTLE HOUSE is just one for eight this season and broke last start at Monticello but he is the biggest money-earner in here so far this season and Bartlett sticks with the Engblom trainee over the top choice. (2) VELVET STYLE has raced well in his last two local tries facing overnight stock.

Race 9: NW4 races or $50,000 Lifetime Pace

(2) PJ LOU was stuck in the eight hole in the Messenger final then failed to make the Meadowlands Pace final but he looks better than these and should take control at a short price. (1) HP LIS SHADOW shipped from Canada to join the Harris barn, added Lasix and blew away a NW2 field. He may be talented enough to compete with better. (5) AIN'T HE SPECIAL was huge in his local debut and followed that up with another good performance; Gillis trainee is definitely a player.
