Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 7/16

Matt Rose|Jul 15, 2024
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2024 MEET STATS: 224 - 753 / $1,246.10 (-$259.90)

BEST BETS: 32 - 65 / $120.40 (-$9.60)

BEST BET: RACING RAMPAGE (7th)

SPOT PLAY: FREQUENT IMAGE (2nd)

Race 1: $60,000-$75,000 Claiming Pace

(8) ROCK DIAMONDS N is obviously heading out of the gate looking for his seventh straight win. He's fast enough and classy enough to get it done. (3) DP REALORDEAL should probably be in line for a smoother trip tonight. (2) MACH N CHEESE draws well again and will be in the top flight of horses, so it's logical he can land a decent share.

Race 2: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(8) FREQUENT IMAGE was nipped in his first start for the Alexander barn then jogged last week. He steps up again but doesn't face any world beaters here; how bout an 8-8 double? (1) SLING SHOCK has been a steady if not spectacular performer and the inside post gives regular driver Stratton options. (3) ALEX TYE shows up for work every week and pays the bills; veteran gets Bartlett in the bike tonight.

Race 3: F&M $25,000 Claiming Pace

(5) FREESTARFLIGHT was a winner in his first start for the Cory Stratton barn after arriving from Delaware and that was a solid uncovered trip; mare bumps up a notch looking for three straight overall. (3) IDEAL COVER is a fresh face arriving from Ohio and she lands in the DiDomenico barn for owner Luke Hanners. We've seen the success with others into this barn. Another barn change here with (2) NIKASA N as she debuts for Alexander and gets Kakaley. She is off a few weeks, however.

Race 4: 3-5YO Open Pace

(4) DUNKIN' is a fun horse to root for, and he's not just a pretty face. Clegg owned/DiDomenico trained 4YO has been awesome this year with over $180K banked and that's after a 21-win season in 2023. I'll give him top call again from this reasonable post. (1) BIRTHDAY has yet to find the winner's circle in four local trips for Burke but he's raced well enough to win and it will come soon. Should be in line for a live trip from the rail. (7) VENTURESOME ARDEN N goes for his fourth straight win in this class but will the outside post assignment give him too much to overcome?

Race 5: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) ROLLING WITH SAM has raced gamely for board spots in his last three; he draws well again and this is not a particularly strong field for this class. (6) BUGABOO LOU has good early speed and if Brennan can clear early inside traffic the Burke 4YO has a chance. (1) STRENGTHFROMABOVE had dead aim on the leader last week and just missed to This Is The Plan; could be looking at a similar trip tonight.

Race 6: 2-5YO winners 2-4 races or $60K lifetime Pace

I liked the aggressive try from (3) SINBAD N last week and it almost worked. Mark Macdonald is back in the bike after Bartlett had him last week and maybe he'll try the same tactics. (4) CHRCHVIEWCAMLOT IR is lightly raced but a winning machine and the import looks to remain perfect this year. Cleary trainee does look like a deserving favorite. (1) BEGGIN FOR BACON steps up after a nice pocket-sitting score last out and we'll see if he can go a bit faster to be competitive here.

Race 7: NW15771 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) RACING RAMPAGE is perfect since arriving from Ohio and he seems to be getting better as he climbs the class ladder. Short price, but tough to go against. (3) TWIN B HEART THROB drops and lands a much-improved post; Cullipher trainee has the best chance to topple the favorite. (6) ROCKIN N TALKIN was a good second to the top choice in his first start for Megan Scran after arriving from Canada. We'll see if he has more to offer.

Race 8: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

Steve Smith put (4) LLOYD'S LOVES on the front end last week and she jogged at odds-on. He's catch-driving again from a similar spot and seems primed to repeat. (1) CALLMEQUEENBEE A steps back up to the $50K claiming level after being taken back by the Devita barn and aside from the top choice there's nothing else in here who looks threatening. (5) HEAVENS SHOWGIRL A has a couple of seconds and a third since returning to Yonkers two months back.

Race 9: F&M $20,000 Claiming Pace

(3) PROVE EM WRONG was not a serious threat while in traffic in her first start for Engblom after arriving from Hoosier. Mare is back in on consecutive weeks and with an improved post; expecting more. (1) HP XANADU likely needed last week's start after being off for an extended period of time and now the Bongiorno trainee drops a notch and moves all the way inside. Clearly she could be ready to fire. (5) LARJON LEAH debuts for a new barn via claim and stays at the level where she's most successful.

Race 10: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

(3) BIG BIG PLANS goes second-time Lasix for Burke and draws a much-improved post. She seems eligible for improvement and will be a much better price than (2) NO WIN NO FEED A, who bounced back with a good race last week and is clearly the one to beat. (5) ON THE MONEY GB steps up to this claiming level while in raging form for the Garcia-Herrera barn.

Race 11: 2-5YO winners 2-4 races or $60K lifetime Pace

(1) THE GOOD DOCTOR hit town for Noel Daley and rolled by late in an impressive 1:51 2/5. He now lands the rail again facing similar and we're probably looking at 1/5 odds here. Note he has been off three weeks. (2) ICACO HANOVER has also been very good in all recent and is the obvious main threat. (3) FIREARM picks up a check every week and will be sitting close up. Cassar trainee looks to complete the tri that may pay $8.

Race 12: F&M $20,000 Claiming Pace

(1) TYRA MAKES BANK won easily from a similar spot last week and the Laterza trainee is the deserving favorite again; looks like a chalky late double at the Hilltop. (6) SHOTGUN PERSUATION has good early speed but has been lacking the staying power recently. Maybe she can find a good spot and hold better for a piece at a price. (3) DANDY'S SHOWTIME draws better and the Engblom trainee is a logical one to use.
