Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 5/9

Matt Rose|May 08, 2023
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2023 MEET STATS: 157 - 428 / $738.70 (-$117.30)

BEST BETS: 25 - 40 / $82.00 (+$2.00)

BEST BET: GOLDEN QUEST N (3rd)

SPOT PLAY: RUSTY BEACH (8th)

Race 1: F&M Can You Go The Distance Leg #2 Pace

(4) SALE EL SOL shipped up from Delaware last week for this series off the strength of two strong wins at Harrington but she was stuck outside in that half-mile affair. Co-owner Gingras drives tonight and she gets post improvement as well as a switch back to the traditional mile distance. (1) TUGGINGONCREDIT has had some decent efforts sprinkled in this season for the Alexander barn and she should make her presence felt moving to the rail. (2) BETTER WATCH IT came up empty two back when bet down to the favorite then had no chance last week; if she can revert to her form from a couple of months back she'll be a big player.

Race 2: F&M Can You Go The Distance Leg #2 Pace

(1) MIKI ROSE has been a bit of a disappointment this season but she raced very well in last week's sprint with Lasix added and she draws the rail here with Gingras picking up the drive for the absent Bartlett. (6) TALL POPPY N rolled by from the pocket in last week's half-mile affair and she's got the early speed to overcome the outside draw. (2) CHUPPAH ON draws a rare inside post and will definitely be close to the front as a big player.

Race 3: F&M Can You Go The Distance Leg #2 Pace

(4) GOLDEN QUEST N only has five starts on the season but she's been very good in her last three pari-mutuel tries and the Bongiorno trainee looms the one to catch. (6) LADY DELA RENTA A is still shut out on the season but she's had some good on-the-board finishes lately and the versatile type can be sent off the gate if Stratton wants to get aggressive. (5) SEZANA N woke up with an improved effort in round one of this series.

Race 4: 2-4YO NW1 race or $12,500 lifetime Pace

In this very soft NW1 affair (5) HOLD MY DRINK was a winner in his second start as a 3YO after a poor showing as a freshman. DiDomenico trainee ships up from Philly looking to build off that effort. (1) CIRCLING THE PREY is a fresh purchase by these connections and he was a solid second in his last start at Northfield. (2) DAVID'S IDEAL is 0 for 35 and counting but he does have 15 on-the-board finishes.

Race 5: NW21931 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) FAMILY RECIPE steps back up a notch off a powerful odds-on win last start and he's got a class edge on most of these; to the front. (1) DIAMONDBEACH was unable to rally in his last couple when sent to the rim but he'll probably be sitting a pocket trip tonight. (5) GAMBLINGTERROR was second best to Nandolo N last week; he can be a price factor to round out exotics.

Race 6: F&M Can You Go The Distance Leg #2 Pace

(3) COWGIRL LILLY came on late to be second best to #2 in last week's half-mile race and overall she's been solid since shipping in here for Bako. Versatile mare has had success on the front end and with a post edge on some speedy rivals in here Kakaley may have her pointed to the lead. (2) TONY'S MOM goes for four straight and she's improved by leaps and bounds since moving to the Engblom barn. (5) CORAL BELLA and (4) LINE EM UP both need to be on or near the lead to be most productive and if #5 clears the front she'll be trouble.

Race 7: 3-5YO NW6 races or $75,000 lifetime Pace

(3) DOWNRIGHTDELICIOUS was the Springfield winner last year in a sparking 1:53 - in just his third lifetime start. Ohio bred followed that up with a decent display in OH stakes action; Alexander trainee should be ready to go off two winning qualifiers. (1) YO A J took all the money and jogged right off the bench; obvious main threat. (2) HUNTSVILLE PLACE has been second best in his last two, and last week that runner-up effort to #1 was after leaving out of the eight hole.

Race 8: 3-5YO NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(4) RUSTY BEACH was a bit overmatched in the Weiss at Pocono but was a winner in a NW1 event there prior to the start of that series. Kakaley is back driving. (5) TACK ROOM CHATTER blitzed a NW1 here last week and looks ready for better; Brennan steers tonight. (2) HOT SHOT JOE is another ex-Todd Luther trainee making his way out East; there's certainly some room for improvement.

Race 9: NW15681 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) ROCKIN WITHELVIS A finished second in the opening round of the Borgata but has done nothing since then; this is by far the softest spot he's seen in some time and the Bako trainee should take advantage. (6) WALKINSHAW N seems to have a class edge on many of these and the veteran must be considered. (7) SHAKE IT has Yannick driving for Engblom but is stuck in a poor post as the 4-year-old makes his third seasonal start; maybe with a crafty drive he can land a piece.
