Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 5/31

Matt Rose|May 30, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 188 - 590 / $946.10 (-$233.90)

BEST BETS: 31 - 54 / $131.30 (+$23.30)

Best Bet: ROLLING WITH SAM (4th)

Spot Play: JUST PLAIN LOCO (2nd)

Race 1: Pop-Up NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) GINGRAS BEACH has been a steady performer most of the season and the Bucci trainee fits well with this group of mostly fringe NW15000 players; Brennan has tactical options from this spot. (2) MULLINAX has a good recent record over at The Big M and he'll attract attention off last week's fourth-place finish in a 1:47 3/5 mile. (7) ANOTHRMASTRPIECE N was an odds-on winner here in his U.S. debut but has missed time with a sick scratch; Shane Tritton trainee deserves respect even from the worst post.

Race 2: Pop-Up NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) JUST PLAIN LOCO was a solid second in the recent Pop-Up series for NW7500 and prior to that he was competitive with $50K claimers; Siegelman is back driving from a good starting spot. (4) ROCKATHON broke battling on the lead last start but Brennan's back driving and he looks like a solid speed threat. (6) REIGNING DEO faces a bit better looking for three straight.

Race 3: $50,000 Claiming Trot

(4) KANDY SWEET only has one win on the season but this trotter has good speed and is well-mannered. She has a post edge on her main rivals (who are both debuting for new barns) and could trip out at a decent price. (5) STONEBRIDGE GAMBLE picked up three wins in six tries after shipping from Northfield and he stays at the same level off the Bake claim; Yannick drives. (7) EMOTIONS RICHES debuts for Dowse off the claim and gets Bartlett but he needs to overcome the poor starting spot.

Race 4: $75,000 Claiming Pace

(6) ROLLING WITH SAM has won four of five and earned $58,000 since the owners moved him to the Gareth Dowse barn. If he can make the lead without too much trouble he can win again. I've never been a fan of (3) HEISMAN PLAYER but he's starting to win me over, mainly off that powerful win last out. (2) MIGHTY SANTANA N is back in claimers after an upset win in his latest start and he draws well.

Race 5: NW30000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) LOU'S SWEETREVENGE hit a rough patch in April but has totally turned it around, and even finished pretty close to Nicholas Beach in that 1:47 mile at The Meadowlands. Bucci trainee deserves top billing here. (3) ESCAPETOTHEBEACH is back up in class off a win and he should be a player. (6) DINA BOLT N gets Bartlett in the bike for Blackler and he does have early speed in his arsenal.

Race 6: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(5) BETTOR BE OSCAR A doesn't have much of a record in his U.S. starts but despite that he was recently claimed twice and now goes for Dowse, and picks up Lasix. This race appears wide-open and he can be a decent price. (2) OURRHYTHMNBLUES N was second best in his debut at this claiming level and this barn and driver have been going well here pretty much all year. (6) KINNDER JACKSON showed versatility two back with that off-the-pace score then got baked up last start. He moves to the Camilleri barn off the claim and picks up Stratton.

Race 7: Pop-Up NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) WICHITA LINEMAN faltered on the front end in his debut off the Dowse purchase but he figures to be heading to the front again and can make amends. (3) RAUKAPUKA RULER N raced okay last week at Pocono in a needed start and you can never count out this Peter Tritton-trained veteran. (5) MYSWEETBOYMAX never got involved last start when odds-on again and now loses Bartlett to the top one. Can Gingras get him in play?

Race 8: Open Handicap Pace

(8) LEONIDAS A has added the speed element this year which makes this talented pacer even more imposing. Obviously the outside assignment in an eight-horse field is tricky but if Siegelman can get away in good order he'll win again. (4) PRICELESS BEACH has been super since arriving from Canada and the Bako trainee gets a rare decent post. (3) MR DS ROCK has been solid in all recent starts and has proven he can go with this type.

Race 9: $75,000 Claiming Trot

(2) WILD AND CRAZY GUY tried cutting the mile in his last start at Philly and faded to third, but he returns to Yonkers where he has taken four straight, including an eight-hole win versus similar a month ago. (4) SEVENTIER drops in for a tag tonight for Smedshammer and he missed a nose when last here. 4-year-old was a dominating winner in the John Brennan final. (7) P L OSCAR fired out last start and was a clear second to the 1/5 favorite; Holland drives tonight and he's not shy about leaving the gate. Consider for a share at a big price.

Race 10: Pop-Up NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(6) SONNY WEAVER N was in the Borgata series when we last saw him at Yonkers and he returns to face a field with some question marks; hopefully Bartlett is forwardly placed with the Cullipher trainee. (3) COALITION HANOVER was a good second last start to Pyro, who would surely be a big contender in here. (2) REAL PEACE was just "ok" in his first start up from Florida but he closed good ground last out.

Race 11: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) ON THE VIRG needed to drop to the basement to pick up a win but he's got plenty of back class and seems capable of repeating. (3) ARRHYTHMIC SURGE was claimed for $40K last start despite not having that strong of a career record but he does find a softer spot. (5) IDEAL ARTILLERY came up big in defeat two back then didn't get involved last out in that 1:51 4/5 mile; he should go well here.

Race 12: Pop-Up NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) NONE BETTOR A gets class and post relief in his local return, plus Bartlett gets the drive. Veteran can take these the distance in the finale. (4) MACH N CHESSE put it back together in his second start after moving to the Cory Stratton barn and he can certainly build off that effort. (5) BETTERROCK cruised last start at The Big M at 30 cents on the dollar and the Jenn Bongiorno trainee has a 1:51 3/5 win here a couple of months back.
