Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 5/23

Matt Rose|May 22, 2023
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2023 MEET STATS: 182 - 513 / $853.30 (-$172.70)

BEST BETS: 30 - 48 / $96.70 (+$0.70)

BEST BET: TONY'S MOM (5th)

SPOT PLAY: EVERYBODYLOVESLOU (1st)

Race 1: 2-4YO NW1 race or $12,500 lifetime Pace

(2) EVERYBODYLOVESLOU has been handled aggressively but came up a bit short in his three seasonal starts. Toscano trainee may appreciate the change in venue. (7) THE GOOD DOCTOR has just raced evenly in his four lifetime starts, all at The Meadowlands. His last quarters are all in the :26 range which is encouraging...starting from the outside post is not. (1) HUNTING ZONE moves from the eight hole to the rail and he has hit the board in three of four this year.

Race 2: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

(2) KAITLYN N has back class and she's been improved this season despite only one win; Bartlett is back in the bike from a good post in this six-horse affair and gets the call. (1) LARJON LEAH held second last week as the winner powered away and she should be in line for a good trip starting from the rail. (4) TUGGINGONCREDIT has some early speed if Kakaley wants to go that route, otherwise the Alexander trainee won't be far back at any point and should land a share.

Race 3: 3-5YO NW6 races or $75,000 lifetime Pace

(5) JK GOING WEST was caught up in a couple of sub-1:50 miles at Pocono in his two seasonal starts and kept up fine in both; Erv Miller trainee had just one win in 31 tries last year but he's the most seasoned of the group and the 5YO has a driver who likes to get aggressive. (2) BOSTON arrives for the Bongiorno barn and looks like a good fit. (6) DOWNRIGHTDELICIOUS cruised on the front end in his 3YO debut after a solid freshman campaign and he does look best here but is also stuck outside; still the Alexander trainee deserves plenty of respect.

Race 4: 3-5YO NW2 races or $25,000 lifetime Pace

(6) HOT SHOT JOE showed good speed last week to work out a pocket trip but he could not gain late; it was a decent try in his second local appearance and he faces a dreadful field tonight. (5) WE SHALL SEA had no chance from the eight hole in his local return; this is a much better spot for the Team Stratton colt. (3) PINE BUSH ITALIANO looks fast enough to compete but he has an unproven driver in the bike and is not all that enticing at 9/5 morning line; use underneath.

Race 5: Can You Go The Distance Final - 1 1/2 mile Pace

(7) TONY'S MOM is undefeated in this unusual series and has taken five straight overall; Bartlett has an extra lap around and plenty of time to work out the winning trip. (5) GOLDEN QUEST N jogged two back but gave way last week after an uncovered bid; Bongiorno trainee should be a serious player. (4) BETTER WATCH IT has won his last two, first from the pocket and then gamely uncovered last week; anything from the Garcia-Herrera barn has to be respected.

Race 6: 3-5YO NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(1) HUMAN COCKTAIL was sent down the road in his seasonal debut but gave way late. Since then he's faced some decent competition out of town and last week he added Lasix and just missed. From the rail here Kakaley can work out a winning trip. (2) BUCKEYE EMERY was sold after his last start at Northfield which was a winning effort. He returns to Yonkers now in the Blumenfeld barn and picks up Bartlett. (7) YO A J recently shipped in and jogged at the NW4 level then was empty facing NW6. He does have early speed and he's back at the winning level.

Race 7: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

(2) HEY HEY DBAY gets needed post relief as she moves from the eight hole and now only faces five rivals; Corelli trainee has made a nice living at this level, including a win from a similar spot five back. Maybe she can grind by late. (3) CORAL BELLA hit a couple of bumps in the road recently but this is a great spot to get well. Holland can have the top quickly and look to back it down from there. (5) MIKI ROSE has been a disappointment this season after looking so good towards the end of 2022. Maybe Bartlett tries reverting to speed tactics.

Race 8: 3-5YO NW2 races or $34,856 lifetime Pace

(4) BEN SOLO went down the road at odds-on last week but was nipped by a rival that now has post eight in here; he looks like the one to beat again. (5) JOHNNY SACK whacked the competition in NW1 and now has his sights set on being the boss of NW2. MacDonald figures to be firing hard again. (2) ON DAYBOO ships in from The Big M for the Cassar barn and he had two recent wins there.

Race 9: NW17661 in last 5 starts; AE NW9 lifetime Pace

(6) SHAKE IT was second best in his last two facing a tough rival who's moved on from this class. It looks like this guy's turn to play bully. (1) MICKY GEE N can still fly home with the best of them when he's in the mood; veteran faces an uncertain trip here...uncovered? (5) IMA HAPPY FELLA GB ships in for Rob Harmon off a sharp try up at Saratoga.
