Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 5/14

Matt Rose|May 13, 2024
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2024 MEET STATS: 134 - 445 / $732.30 (-$157.70)

BEST BETS: 20 - 38 / $72.40 (-$3.60)

BEST BET: ESCAPE TO AMERICA (9th)

SPOT PLAY: LYONS TREACHEROUS (7th)

Race 1: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) KINGSVILLE has put in two good races in a row losing by a neck each time. Gelding is versatile and proven at this level. (2) BUGABOO LOU has certainly taken to Yonkers going two for two for Burke. He steps up another level but that may not stall this 4YO; Joe B. gets the call. (1) SHADOW CAT tends to do his best running a level or two down but he's always involved when drawn inside; use underneath to complete a chalky triple.

Race 2: $60,000-$75,000 claiming Pace

I kind of overlooked (7) POINTOMYGRANSON last week and he rolled down the road from his outermost post. Veteran 10YO has been a cash cow here all season and if he makes the front again he'll likely wire these. (1) TRAIN STATION broke last week and his night was over. Engblom 4YO is entered for the same tag again and should be stalking assuming he minds his manners. (2) HOWARD HUGHES N ships in from the Midwest on the strength of a sub-1:50 score at Miami Valley and he joins the Dylan Davis barn. Driver Daniel Dube is off to a very slow start here this year but that will change, and maybe it starts with this guy.

Race 3: F&M $25,000 Claiming Pace

It just wouldn't be Yonkers without a five-horse field...so (1) CALLMEQUEENBEE A is competitive week in and week out at this claiming level and she now lands a rare inside post. Bongiorno mare looks to trip out. (4) SAUBLE DELIGHTFUL cruised in two straight, obvious one to beat. (5) PRINESS ARONA hasn't exactly excelled for these connections after being claimed last month but she only needs to pass a couple to hit the ticket at a price.

Race 4: $60,000-$75,000 claiming Pace

I have been guessing wrong with (4) MICKY GEE N for what seems like a decade but he's sure looked like the 'Micky' of old with back-to-back sweeps of the field. I'll fall into the trap tonight. (1) REIGNING DEO has tailed off in his last couple but is back on the rail and should be on the lead or in the pocket. (2) SHINE A LIGHT entered this class last week and finished close; Engblom trainee is very logical.

Race 5: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

(1) PARADISE ROCK L has been a solid mare from the first day she arrived from Ohio; she rallied from off the pace to win last week, and five back she wired the field from the rail. Top call. (4) OKINAWA BEACH A is back in for a tag after missing a nose, and she won from a similar spot in this class four back. (2) YS SENSATIONALCITY has speed and is close every week; obvious contender.

Race 6: F&M $20,000 Claiming Pace

(2) EVAS SPORTS CZECH had won two straight by scant margins both at double-digit prices before having the seven hole last week with a European amateur driving. No reason she can't win again with a good trip. (3) ROLL WITH SHORTY won from a similar spot three back with Stratton driving. (1) ITTY BITTY has speed, the rail and plenty of back class but she just hasn't been all that good. Maybe Bartlett cuts the mile with her tonight and she gets brave.

Race 7: 2-5YO NW2 races or $25,000 lifetime Pace

(7) LYONS TREACHEROUS picks up Bartlett making her third start as a 3YO and perhaps a more aggressive try is coming. (5) IDEAL PAR was a non-factor in a stakes event at Plainridge last out but he was third best from similar spots in his last two local tries; Alexander trainee figures to be a player here. (2) HURRIKANE JUSTIN was respectable in the Weiss at Pocono but he's now 0 for 12 and counting.

Race 8: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

(5) NUTTINBUTHEBEST was a good second last week when up in class and dropping back to this claiming level I figure Kakaley to be forwardly placed off the gate and could be tough if she makes the front. (1) BADDITUDE draws the rail, has been live and is very logical. (6) LA BELLA VITA gave it a good try from the eight hole last out but could she be compromised by inside speed tonight?

Race 9: 2-5YO NW3 races or $25,000 lifetime Pace

(2) ESCAPE TO AMERICA seemed to have some willing pace last week out of the eight hole making his first start as a 3YO. Daguet trainee will attract a ton of attention moving inside. (3) FIREARM has been very consistent since returning for his 3YO campaign and he moves back in from the eight hole. (1) CHOOSE CAREFULLY showed promise as a freshman but may need a start or two after looking a bit short in those Pocono qualifiers.

Race 10: F&M $20,000 Claiming Pace

(5) MISS MAYCEE arrived from Freehold three back and immediately fit in nicely with this class of claimers; two back she went down the road from the six hole and got beat a head. Worth a try in a soft field. (8) DANDY'S SHOWTIME draws a tough outside post again but two back she left from the outside and finished third so I could see Bartlett trying to blast with the Engblom trainee. (1) REAL LADY SADIE has been tearing it up at Freehold so she gives Yonkers a try and races for more than double the money.

Race 11: 3-5YO W of 3-5 races or $60,000 lifetime Pace

(3) WHO SAID I CAN'T won a leg of the Weiss before going a tough mile in the final. The Mark Harder trainee finds a softer start here but has missed a few weeks. (4) VICI ended up way too far back to threaten when favored last start; I have to believe Joe B. will be more aggressive tonight. (6) HEZ ALLTHE RAGE N hails from live connections with imports but he's regressed some after winning his U.S. debut. Leading driver is back in the bike.
