Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 3/8

Matt Rose|Mar 07, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 47 - 170 / $223.10 (-$116.90)

BEST BETS: 6 - 16 / $22.40 (-$9.60)

Best Bet: PHOENIX OF FLUZZY (2nd)

Spot Play: BALFAST N (3rd)

Race 1: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(6) JESSE DUKE N has been holding his own recently at the $100K claiming level and he gets some class relief tonight; he does have some early speed in his arsenal which Bongiorno would be wise to use. (8) SAN DOMINO A has underachieved since the Burke claim but he too faces a bit softer and must be considered, even from post eight. (1) PYRO has been racing well and is the logical favorite in here, but as mentioned before in this column he's not always the most reliable commodity.

Race 2: MGM Rewards Gents Pace

(5) PHOENIX OF FLUZZY ships in from The Meadows for Burke, who is a master at properly classifying his horses. If he thinks this gelding will be a good fit in this series then I'll hop on board. (3) BARRYWHITE HANOVER scratched the other night to go in this series and he should be leaving the gate and hopefully sit a trip behind the favorite. (2) RHODENA ROAD missed a nose last start and should be close here as well.

Race 3: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

(5) BALFAST N figured to wake up last week with the improved post and she raced well to be second best. Devita trainee is a proven commodity at this level while others in here aren't. (4) TALL POPPY N makes her third seasonal start and she's clearly capable of showing more, much like most of her barn-mates. (2) YS TALLIA drops in for a tag after beating NW10000 types last start; she will be tested here but she does come into this race sharp.

Race 4: NW4 races or $50,000 lifetime Pace

(4) AMERICANLIGHTNINGN is fresh Down-Under stock for the Shane Tritton barn and he could be ready for action right away; I guess we should watch the board and check the will-pays for signs of life. (1) BEEBEETEE drew four miserable posts since arriving but wasn't far back in any of those races; I guess we'll see what he's got tonight. (2) GOTAFOOLISHDESIRE has been overmatched recently across the river and may appreciate returning to the small track.

Race 5: NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) PARTY WHIP failed miserably as the 2/5 favorite when dropped to this basement conditioned level but a similar effort will probably be good enough to beat this soft bunch. (1) MCERLEAN should still be competent with this type and the veteran will be in line for a good trip from this spot. (6) BARON MICHAEL has been overmatched in all recent but he faces softer and maybe Stratton can wake him up.

Race 6: MGM Rewards Gents Pace

(2) PERFECTBOY HANOVER was racing well here versus NW6 and NW8 earlier in the year and followed that up with a couple of solid tries at The Big M. Gillis trainee looks well-spotted in his local return. (4) DANCE IT OUT was loaded with pace in traffic two back then was just okay last start in that strung-out affair; Bartlett gets the drive tonight with Joe B driving his sister's horse in post eight. (3) SARANAC BLUE CHIP was a big dead-heat winner last week at 50/1 after firing from the outside and sitting a trip. He figures to be close-up throughout again.

Race 7: NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) PROVOCATIVEPRINCEN is right back into go at this basement level after suffering broken equipment last week. I would like to see Bartlett fire out this classy oldtimer and wire these. Speaking of classy oldtimers, 12-year-old (1) MACH IT SO is inching towards $3 million lifetime and that was an aggressive try in his local return. (4) TOM ME GUN N is not a prolific winner but he does drop in class and should earn a piece of this.

Race 8: NW6 races or $75,000 lifetime Pace

(8) IMOUTTHEDOOR earns a bump up to NW6 and clearly he has the speed to overcome the eight hole. He may be able to take this if not too roughed-up early. (4) THEFLYINGROCK burned all the cash upon arrival when he gave way at 30 cents on the dollar. He still looms a major player here but probably won't be worth another short price. (3) REMEMBER THE BEACH has been decent since arriving locally for Todd Buter; consider him for a share.

Race 9: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) CONBOYVILLE has hit the board in his last four and continues to get lucky with the post draws. Devita trainee will be close-up again and maybe tonight's the night he breaks through into the win column. (7) SAVE ME A DANCE has been a bit disappointing in his last couple but he drops in class again and it wasn't that long ago he was an Open Handicap winner at odds-on. (3) MAYHEM HANOVER bumps up in class off a win and that was a good horse he beat in that last start.

Race 10: MGM Rewards Gents Pace

(3) MAKIN SOME NOISE has looked perfectly fine since arriving from Northfield and he has a legit chance to take this field wire-to-wire. (5) CONFIDENCE MAN looked a bit on the cheaper side when he first arrived at Yonkers but he's been great in his three local starts; interestingly Zeron picks up the catch drive while Siegelman sits on the sidelines. (2) SAULSBROOK HERO made up good ground in the third quarter last week then flattened a bit late; he does have a 1:52 1/5 win here not too long ago.

Race 11: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) MISSILE SEELSTER was claimed out of his last race for $30K by Shane Tritton and he gets to drop into this softer conditioned event while picking up Bartlett; definitely worth a look here. (3) ROLL WITH JR steps up off a nice win for Devita and the sharp sort would clearly be no surprise. (7) PADUKA N was a fast-closing third at the $75K claiming level upon arrival; will he be too far back to threaten? He did show gate speed in some recent Freehold races.

Race 12: $20,000 Claiming Pace

(6) MACH TIME N has been a completely different horse since the recent barn changes and he looks like the one to beat despite starting outside of his main competition. (4) RANSOM DEMAND is feeling good again and he was competitive with this type a few months back. (5) SEAFARER was second best in his last two and stays off the same level off the Lambert claim; he has missed a bit of time, however.
