Yonkers: Analysis for Tuesday 10/6/26

Matt Rose|Oct 05, 2026
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2026 MEET STATS: 287 - 898 / $1,550.82 (-$245.18)

BEST BETS: 52 - 95 / $176.72 (-$13.28)

BEST BET: PINNY TIGER A (8th)

SPOT PLAY: MATAI PHIL N (7th)

Race 1: $60,000-$75,000 Claiming Pace

(1) CAPT KARMA moved to the Joe Bongiorno barn a couple of months back, added Lasix and has won four in a row impressively. No reason to jump ship now. (4) CURLY JAMES A is no slouch himself despite getting collared in his last two races. These two figure to line up and control the action. (3) BOSTON BOUND moves back inside and can pick up the pieces.

Race 2: F&M $20,000 Claiming Pace

(1) IDEALINFUN has been the ultimate "rent a horse" the last couple of months and she gets major post relief in her return to the Alexander barn. (5) YUENGLING has been a terror at this $20K level and the Laterza trainee goes for three straight. (3) DUCK INTO THE NITE returns to Yonkers with a driver upgrade after the trainer had been in the bike for her last five starts.

Race 3: F&M $50,000 Claiming Pace

(1) GOING AWAY is another recent addition to the Bongiorno barn who became a killer overnight. This mare broke on the lead late in the mile last start but I'll assume that was a fluke; back to winning. (3) OVER ICE's last race can be tossed out and prior to that she's been razor sharp. (5) DISCOVERINGTHEHUNT picks up Bartlett tonight and while it is a short field she figures to be at a tactical disadvantage.

Race 4: NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) OURMATEMENKO N was a $40K claim a couple of months back by these connections and he hasn't been that bad but he does qualify now for the lowest conditioned class. Draws the rail, picks up Bartlett and this race clearly goes through him. (4) SHAKESPEARE is loaded with back class and can certainly build off his last effort. (5) SWEETHOMEALABAMA N comes off a completely forgettable experience from the eight hole but his effort three back would be more than enough to win here.

Race 5: 3-5YO Winners of 2-4 races or $60,000 LT Pace

(1) STRIKEM N is the latest import from Australia/NZ to hit town ready to debut off a live qualifier. Seems like drawing the rail and having the driver of the year in the bike will probably help the cause. (2) MAGIC JOURNEY has some minor stakes experience and the last time he was at Yonkers he won an Excelsior leg in a sharp 1:51 3/5. (6) LYONS GUSTAVOFRING makes his third start after arriving from Canada and does have a local win under his belt. Not the easiest spot but he can be a late player.

Race 6: 3-5YO NW2 races or $39,355 lifetime Pace

(1) LYONS PAPI ROCK ships in to Yonkers making his fourth start for the Engblom Empire after three decent races at Philly. Like the 5th race this one draws the rail and has Bartlett. (6) ROCKET CITY SMITTY has had a spotty career up to this point but that was a very encouraging effort at Pocono last week. (2) ISCAH HANOVER was outrun last race but won in this class the prior start.

Race 7: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(8) MATAI PHIL N is arguably best in here but has to find a way into the race. Worth a try at a decent price. (3) TH COLBY is most logical on paper as the Burke trainee has been very consistent and has been right there in his last three at this level. (2) CHECKNOUTHETALNT A has decent credentials and a top driver but needs more to beat this type; using underneath.

Race 8: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) PINNY TIGER A is hard to look past coming off that powerful 1:51 4/5 win last week. Step up a class shouldn't be a problem. (1) RAGNAR LOTHBROK N was second best at this level two back and is the main threat. (3) HARDT OF A KING was a winner in his local debut and has an impressive career record; will have to be even better than last week in order to repeat.

Race 9: F&M $20,000 Claiming Pace

(5) GINGER TREE LIZ was a sharp winner right off the claim but then has given way on the front end in her last two; I'll give this veteran one more chance. (7) GABBYS WISH draws poorly but gets a significant driver switch to Bartlett. (1) KISSIN JOE was a big upset winner out of the eight hole last week and now moves all the way into the rail; she's got a legit shot to repeat.

Race 10: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) GINGRAS BEACH is the only one in here with a win over the last couple of months and it came last week when he dropped to the bottom class. Veteran draws well again and is capable of repeating with a similar effort. (5) EVER M showed more in his last couple of races after dropping to this level from $30K claimers and he's a nine-time winner with $113K banked this season; that's hard to ignore. (3) FORCE FULL A doesn't have much current form but he drops in class again and finally draws a decent post.

Race 11: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) UDDERLY SWEET A was a sick scratch in his last race but now he's right back in for connections that are currently impossible to ignore. This is a good spot to turn things around. (3) TWIN B FRESH BET crushed a NW lifetime race and now faces "aged" and more seasoned performers; he's too sharp not to use. (6) ULTIMAROCA moved to the Engblom outfit on his return from Maryland and went wire-to-wire from an easy spot; this will be tougher but he's got plenty of back class and will be a good price.
