Race 1 - NW5000L5/Starters for a Base Claiming Price of $12,500 or $10,000 in Last Start Pace
(6) BEVANS CULLEN N dropped to this level before the racing hiatus and was a closing second. Temming had a starter in on Monday who raced well despite not qualifying since March, and I'll hope this one does as well. (5) PICKLED PREACHER kept Stratton over another one in here and rallied to hit the ticket both times he raced against NW5000L5's in February and March. (1) ROAR OF APPROVAL qualified fine at Wingate Farms in Pennsylvania and picks up Sears from the pole position. He's just one for his last 25 in the win column, but I'll use underneath.
Race 2 - NW17500L5/Starters for a Base Claiming Price of $30,000 or Less in Last Start Trot
(6) WINNING SHADOW was in the NW30000L5 class when he last raced at Yonkers, so this is a much more reasonable spot tonight, and he should be ready to roll after getting a tightener under his belt against stout foes at the Meadowlands on June 5. (1) TACO TUESDAY also has a start since the break in racing, finishing fourth from post ten at the The Big M. He moves over to Yonkers in basically the same class and should be on the lead or tracking my top choice with his good early foot. (5) PILGRIMS TIDE is a starter from the Shane Tritton barn, and pretty much all the horses he's sent out at the Meadowlands so far have been sharp as sharp can be. This might be a bit of an ambitious spot, but out of respect for what I've seen from this barn, I'll include.
Race 3 - NW1000L5/Winners in Last Start of Base Class NW5000L5 or NW7500L5/Starters for a Base Claiming Price of $20,000 or Less in Last Start Pace
(2) DOCTOR BUTCH gets a chance to be partnered by Yannick Gingras tonight, and I'm hoping he'll try and send this veteran campaigner right down the road from this inside post. (4) MASTERSON was knocking on the door against NW10000L5's before the racing break and rallied to win a qualifier at Goshen in late May. I expect he'll be ready. (5) CAVIART SKYLER beat some classy foes rather handily in the qualifier at Gaitway and makes his 2020 debut tonight. He's been pretty tough when in this class over the years and I think he'll put in a good performance.
Race 4 - Open Trot
(5) ELYSIUM LINDY scored in the last open held at Yonkers before the shutdown, qualified back nicely at Gaitway, and then was in an impossible spot at the Meadowlands. I like he's got that racing foundation under him, and Harris won a pair of races on Monday, picking right up where he left off. (4) SWANSEA is probably the other logical one in here given his success in the local open, and he closed with a good kick in the qualifier at the Meadowlands. (1) LEAN HANOVER draws the rail and also has gotten to stretch his legs out already with a qualifier and a pari-mutuel race to work with. He was victorious in an open back in late February.
Race 5 - Open Pace
(7) THEARTOFCONFUSION A kept up pretty well with the great Shartin N in the qualifier at Harrah's Philly and Siegelman stayed loyal to horse and barn, taking this guy over the rail starter. Garcia-Herrera and Siegelman teamed up to win one on Monday in dominating fashion, and I'll hope this horse is ready since this is not the toughest edition of the open I've seen. (2) RAUKAPUKA RULER N did win an open last December but is making his initial start of 2020 tonight. He did look ready in the qualifier at the Meadowlands as he closed well to win in a close finish, and he's drawn inside. (6) CAVIART LUCA hung with None Bettor A, who went on to finish a good second in the Roll With Joe at Tioga, in the Gaitway qualifier, and this horse has always fared pretty well at Yonkers. Brennan might get pretty aggressive with a potential lack of speed to the inside.
Race 6 - NW17500L5/Starters for a Base Claiming Price of $30,000 or Less in Last Start Pace
(2) DON DOMINGO N made up ground in the qualifier at Goshen, and this has traditionally been a level where he races very well at. (1) SHOREVIEW met up with some good horses in those two qualifiers, so he should be ready to compete tonight, and he has the Bartlett/Harris tandem in his favor. (6) CAPOZZO converted a pocket trip to a win in his qualifier at Magical Acres, and I think Gingras might take a shot and fire him out in hopes of landing the same journey.
Race 7 - NW25200L5/4&5YO NW10 Trot
(8) WARRIOR ONE absolutely dominated that race at the Meadowlands on the 12th and does have co-owner Gingras come over to drive. I don't think he's taking back, and the horse has won at Yonkers before. (6) LORD CROMWELL finished with trot in his return at The Big M back on 6-5 and out-draws Warrior One here. Expect Bartlett to try and use that advantage. (4) MONEY MAVEN scored a victory in this class back in late February before racing had to cease and closed with some interest behind Atlanta in the qualifier down at Gaitway.
Race 8 - NW25000L5/4&5YO NW10 Pace
(1) JUST N ACE qualified strongly twice at Hoosier Park, with the second one behind a horse who was in their open on June 19. I don't mind using these horses who come from the Midwest to Travis Alexander, and I'll give this one a shot. (8) IN SPADES kicked home in 27 and a bit at Pocono and retains Siegelman over one of the more fancied contenders in this race. He was in good form prior to the racing hiatus, including a win against NW20000L5's that he was disqualified from. (3) LUCIANO N was in the open when he last competed in a pari-mutuel contest, so he finds a good spot here if he's ready off the Goshen qualifier.
