Yonkers: Analysis for Saturday 7/1

Matt Rose|Jun 29, 2023
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2023 MEET STATS: 221 - 643 / $1,073.50 (-$212.50)

BEST BETS: 37 - 61 / $116.20 (-$5.80)

BEST BET: KEEP ROCKIN A (11th)

SPOT PLAY: LINDSEY'S PRIDE (3rd)

Race 1: 3-5YO FM NW4 races or $59,606 lifetime Pace

Hard to ignore the qualifier from (4) COACHELLABOUND N where she rolled from the pocket in 1:53 2/5 in preparation for her U.S. debut. I'll play right off the bat. (2) PROUD MARY has been facing much better out of town as she's been stakes-placed throughout her career and she's seemed to have regressed recently despite adding Lasix; is she worth the short price? (1) RHYDS ECLIPSE GB has been first or second in her last five local starts at the NW2 level; faces better but still deserves a look.

Race 2: NW7500 in last 5 starts Trot

(3) MAGICAL JOURNEY returned to Yonkers last week at the lowest level and took care of business; classy veteran can build off that effort. (4) STREET GOSSIP was a winner against much better not too long ago and he hasn't been that bad as he's descended the class ladder but he has been tiring; Siegelman is back driving and he's also a major player here. (6) ZLATAN gets a change of scenery as the 10-year-old arrives from Philly looking to perk up. Post likely relegates the Bongiorno trainee to a smaller share.

Race 3: Can You Go The Distance? 9/16 Mile Trot

Another odd-distance series begins tonight with this sprint. (7) LINDSEY'S PRIDE is an interesting option here at 20/1 on the morning line, as he was claimed by the Devita barn for $50K out of his last start despite being winless over a number of starts. He's got proven early speed and a longer run into the first turn. (3) TOCCOA FALLS overcame a break last week to score at 25 cents on the dollar and he goes for three straight overall. (2) UP HELLY AA hails from good connections and gets Napolitano in the bike.

Race 4: NW11431 in last 5 starts Trot

(3) DRACO S steps up in class despite not registering a win yet in this country and he loses the leading driver Bartlett but the Engblom import faces a pretty shaky field here and should offer some value. (7) CALL ME DANI returns from a mostly unsuccessful stint in Canada and was facing better when we last saw here; the hot Kakaley picks up the drive. (1) HOOLIE N HECTOR had nothing to offer last week facing a couple of classes higher; class relief will help but overall he's not that appealing at his low morning line.

Race 5: Can You Go The Distance? 9/16 Mile Trot

(2) PROMISE FOR LIFE enters this series on the strength of a lifetime-best win in 1:54 4/5 and the Bako trainee should be in play early enough from this inside spot. (7) MON AMOUR was flat last week but he was facing much better; Engblom trainee picks up George Nap and will undoubtedly be firing from the gate. (5) BARRY BLACK has been around seemingly forever and the French import can never be counted out, as evidenced by that win in his last start.

Race 6: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(7) DON DOMINGO N took all the money last start but folded up on the front end after being handled very aggressively. Veteran drops in class making his fourth seasonal start and will offer a nice price if he can somehow work out a live trip. (3) STELLAR YANKEE has woken up in a big way and he goes for three straight. (6) BIG SIR has been a money pit for these connections since being claimed for $50K back in February but after time on the shelf he qualified very willingly at Pocono.

Race 7: Can You Go The Distance? 9/16 Mile Trot

(4) ABRUZZO blew up two back at five cents on the dollar but recovered to win gamely last week and the Bako trainee can handle these at the shorter distance provided he minds his manners. (5) SMALLTOWNTHROWDOWN is super-classy and can still bring it as he goes for three straight; he'll be firing off the gate. (7) GREY is another classy trotter and she's got plenty of gate speed.

Race 8: F&M NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) COMMANDER CATHY N hasn't hit the board in over two months but comes out of every race with a small check; this is arguably the best spot the mare has seen over that period and she can take this with a clean trip. (3) ALLAMBIE A drops a notch making her second U.S. start and she figures to have much more to offer. (1) CALLMEQUEENBEE A fits okay with these and moves all the way inside.

Race 9: F&M NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) DRAGONS LUCKY LADY was off almost a month before last week's start, where she never got involved from the outside post. Engblom trainee drops in class and moves inside a few notches; recipe for success. (3) LAURIE LEE took some sneaky tote action coming out of the same race as the top choice and she ran well to be second best; mare looks like a prime contender again. (8) MISS LIMELIGHT has really found her stride of late in Indiana for the Cullipher barn and she looks like a good fit with these. Unfortunately she's a victim of the draw; consider for a small share this week.

Race 10: 2-4YO FM NW1 race or $13436 lifetime Pace

(4) ARRHYTHMIC DREAM is a newcomer to this area after a not-so-successful run up in Canada, but that qualifier at Pocono showed some willing speed and she may be overlooked in the wagering. (7) DEVILISH DREAMS set a fast pace last time and wilted badly but the start prior against a full field of NW1 types she jogged. Daley trainee has the speed to overcome the post. (5) MARATHON MARY finished second in her last two and is a logical contender from the Shane Tritton barn. Filly loses Bartlett but catch driver Steve Smith has filled in well recently at Yonkers.

Race 11: F&M NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) KEEP ROCKIN A has gotten off to a slow start this year but has looked better since returning to the East coast and don't forget the Cullipher trainee was a Matchmaker finalist here in 2022. (3) SWEET SANDY LOU is fresh stock arriving from Canada for Gillis; Siegelman gets the drive. (4) GAME OF SHADOWS is winless on the year but she hit the board in her last two.

Race 12: NW5000 in last 5 starts Trot

(5) NEW HEAVEN raced well to be second best in his return from a three month break and now he drops to the bottom conditioned level. Veteran trotter, now in the Noel Daley barn, has a long and successful history here facing much better. (6) IN MY DREAMS is another classy veteran who should make his presence felt at some point. (4) LADY JETER has some ugly-looking lines and hasn't earned a penny in her last six starts but she's clearly better than what she's been showing and new driver George Nap may help wake her up.
