Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 9/6

Matt Rose|Sep 03, 2021
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 297 - 843 / $1,604.10 (-$81.90)

BEST BETS: 41 - 80 / $130.40 (-$29.60)

Best Bet: FUNATTHEBEACH N (10th)

Spot Play: SOHO LENNON A (6th)

Race 1: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(2) CHRISTEN ME N faltered on the lead last week but the 13-year-old gets another crack here from a very live spot and is certainly capable of rebounding. (7) MARINER SEELSTER was claimed by Jenn Bongiorno and to nobody's surprise he won first time out for his new connections; he bumps up a notch and is stuck outside again but still looms a solid threat. (6) EGOMANIA goes second-time out for the Bako barn, which has been having success here recently; we'll see if he can get more involved tonight than he did last week.

Race 2: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(3) SOHO LEVIATHAN A was short from the pocket last week, which was his first start off the $50K Renaud claim, but he is back at the level tonight where he's been having good success. (6) FOREVER FAV has not had a bad effort in ages for Team Bongiorno; only problem here is overcoming the outside post. (1) UPTOWN FUNK woke up with a better effort as he rallied for third from off a wide trip; inside post makes him a contender.

Race 3: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) CAPOZZO returns to Yonkers at a reduced level and he's almost always a live contender when drawn well. (4) MACH DORO A is an interesting proposition as he's had success here in the past and now he returns locally in the Garcia-Herrera barn; veteran should fit well here. (6) FINE DIAMOND drops yet again but he just hasn't been sharp.

Race 4: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(1) CHANGE STRIDE N has been right there in all recent starts without a win to show for it, so I guess he qualifies as "overdue". From this spot Brennan will have the option of controlling the action. (8) AMERICAN BOY N has been rejuvenated since moving to the Garcia-Herrera barn and this classy veteran has always had good early speed. Will Dube take a shot firing from the gate? It would seem to be his best chance. (4) TERRITORY finally tasted defeat last week and now he changes hands via claim and faces more accomplished rivals; we'll see how good he really is.

Race 5: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(2) REAL LUCKY N was nailed on the money by a sharp Bongiorno piece last week so there was certainly no disgrace in that losing effort. He gets another shot to take this field wire-to-wire. (6) YANKEE OSBORNE put in a solid front-end effort two back from a similar spot and there doesn't seem to be a ton of early speed inside of him; maybe Holland takes a shot off the gate here at a price. (4) SPORTSKEEPER debuts for Devita off the claim and stays at the same level; maybe.

Race 6: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) SOHO LENNON A certainly seemed to need last week's start after being on the bench for three months. Classy veteran gets both class and post relief tonight. (5) BETTERTHANTHEBEACH arrives locally seeking his third straight and the four-year-old is coming off a lifetime mark. (3) FLYING FINN N may have regained some confidence with last week's brush and crush effort against softer.

Race 7: Open Handicap Pace

(7) DRAGON SAID returns to the Yonkers Open ranks after a third-place effort at Philly where it appeared he had too much ground to cover. He meets some new faces tonight from a tough post but should also offer a decent price. (4) NANDOLO N was not involved at all the last time we saw him here but he lands in a more realistic spot tonight. (5) LEONIDAS A is back in the Mcelhiney barn after almost predictably hitting a bit of a rough patch; how long until we see top form from him again?

Race 8: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) CAN B PERFECT steps up a notch off a game uncovered score as the odds-on chalk; he seems capable of repeating, and should offer a bit more value. (1) TIGER BARON suffered a brutal beat last start at the hands of Pat Stanley N, and it still stings two weeks later! He too steps up here, but faces no standouts, and he draws best. (8) TITO ROCKS would probably be the top choice if not for the post.

Race 9: WO30000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) MAJOR BETTS returns to Yonkers for Bongiorno and like all of his barnmates he's been super-competitive with similar; four-year-old may have a tactical advantage on favorite (4) AMERICAN HISTORY. We'll see how aggressive Joe B is early. The latter cruised around the oval unpressured last week and is certainly classy enough to repeat. (2) MICKY GEE N missed a nose last out and we know he can go with this type, but he needs a smooth trip.

Race 10: $75,000 Claiming Pace

(5) FUNATTHEBEACH N did the best he could from the eight hole last week but it was only good enough for third as the winner was well rated. The post relief here can get him over the top. (6) ROBBIE BURNS N looked super winning from the pocket in last; sharp sort must be considered. (2) THE DOWNTOWN BUS is in for the $75K tag tonight and draws well but he's been a major disappointment recently. He should save ground here and can land a share.

Race 11: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) MACH N CHEESE isn't the most consistent horse out there but when he's good he's "Borgata"-type good. Worth a try here as the likely second choice. (1) SPLASH BROTHER has faltered in his last two starts, burning loads of cash in the process. It's not like he's been no good, he just didn't win. (4) BELMONT MAJOR N arrives from Pocono, where he's been in raging form.

Race 12: NW30000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) ALLUNEEDISFAITH N was a game front-end winner here two back with Bartlett in the bike and I suspect the same tactics will be employed from this good starting spot. (1) BEACH BOOGIE came from off the pace last start and finished with a powerful charge to upset at 13/1. He's up in class here but doesn't face any real standouts. (6) SAN DOMINO A hasn't been at his sharpest lately but he is loaded with back class.
