Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 8/12

Matt Rose|Aug 09, 2024
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2024 MEET STATS: 274 - 898 / $1,503.40 (-$292.60)

BEST BETS: 40 - 77 / $145.10 (-$8.90)

BEST BET: CAPTIVATE HANOVER (3rd)

SPOT PLAY: SHINE A LIGHT (6th)

Race 1: NW15361 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) POINTOMYGRANSON woke up with a better effort last start, which I had been waiting for, and now he drops another class while drawing best. Veteran was on a big run earlier in the season and can start a new streak tonight. (4) SOUTHWIND PETYR returned from a bit of time off in a new barn and promptly scored in 1:51 4/5. Loses Bartlett but a similar effort puts him right in the mix. (2) BIG GULP drops in class again for good connections needing a bit of a wakeup call.

Race 2: 3-5YO $30,000 Claiming Pace

(2) BEGGIN FOR BACON raced decently for third last week with Lasix added and the Tim Tetrick owned/DiDomenico trained 4YO seems fast enough to break through here. (6) TO THE HUNT is the main speed here despite the outermost post; new connections. (3) HIGH ON ROCKNROLL gets Bartlett tonight and is in an improved post in his return to the age-restricted claimers.

Race 3: NW10051 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) CAPTIVATE HANOVER faces perhaps the softest field he's seen all year I'm hoping he's driven accordingly - meaning aggressively. Lots of camera-shy types in here. (2) KOMODO BEACH gave way on the front end when dropped in class last week and now he's down another notch; Alexander trainee figures to be the main threat to the top choice. (4) LEVINE gets a driver change to Bartlett after owner Scott Zeron has been in the bike his last dozen starts or so.

Race 4: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(2) SAN DOMINO A hasn't really fired since the $40K claim by Shane Tritton as he's only managed to pick up small awards but the classy veteran will be close to the front and can get it done over this competitive field with a live trip. (6) MAXIMUS RED A makes his second start for Bongiorno after having no realistic chance in his first off the claim; tough outside post again though it is a moderately improved spot and he'll be a juicy price. (4) DANCE ON THE BEACH is a proven commodity at this level and he brings a live effort every week; Kakaley gets the drive.

Race 5: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(5) SMOKIN BY N was a winner for these connections four back when claimed and they paid a premium to get him back; now he lands a more reasonable post and has a legit chance to reach in time. (4) PRETTY HANDSOME wired the field from a similar spot last week; Stratton drives again for Gillis. (1) WAR DAN DELIGHT N drops from $40's to $30's and lands the rail; wakeup call?

Race 6: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(3) SHINE A LIGHT got hung to dry last week at 28/1 but proved dead game by finishing a close second. Laterza trainee deserves the call off that effort. (4) REAL WILLEY gave it a shot up in class for Joe B. but faltered late after an eight hole speed try; veteran had won three straight prior. (1) SURFSIDE BEACH didn't fire on the rim coming out of the same race as #4 but a ground-saving ride tonight may produce better results.

Race 7: Invitational Pace

(2) TYPHOON BANNER N went from lower conditioned races a few months back to 1:50 3/5 winner at this level in his last race. I'll give him the chance to repeat. (1) HEMSWORTH N was a winner when last starting from the rail. (3) BOILING OAR steps back up to the top level looking for three straight and he was a major player with this type not too long ago.

Race 8: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) HELLABALOU found a winning spot at Philly and cruised in 1:48 3/5. Borgata champ clearly deserves top billing with Dube heading down the road. (4) FUNATTHEBEACH N hasn't been a factor in his last couple but this feels like a spot where Stratton can get aggressive early and sit the trip to the top one. (2) NANDOLO N steps back up off a long-awaited win and figures to be grinding at some point.

Race 9: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(6) CHIMICHURRI N rolled in two straight at odds-on then suffered broken equipment taking him out of last week's race in a hurry. Tough outside post again but a rare opportunity to get a decent price. (1) THIS IS THE PLAN can be there with an alert getaway from the inside and a rail trip. (4) NONE BETTOR A is another main speed in here but needs more late.

Race 10: 3-5YO Open Pace

(2) VENTURESOME ARDEN N gets a new pilot tonight in the catch-driving Buter and he's a proven winner with this type. Cozy inside draw makes him a serious player. (7) PLEASELETMEKNOW was third in the Gerrity and managed to pick up a check from a near-impossible spot in the McKee on Hambo day. Talented Alexander trainee has toughest post he's seen recently at Yonkers but is still a player. (5) ITS A ME MARIO is a model of consistency in this weekly $39K event.
