Race 1 - NW5000L5/Starters for a Base Claiming Price of $12,500 or $10,000 in 1 of 2 Last Starts Pace
(2) TIGERS WAY closed well from a tough spot at the Meadowlands as he started from a trailing post 12 and then got caught behind a clogger in the outer tier on the far turn. He has a chance for a much smoother journey from this inside post tonight and his second qualifier at Magical Acres was quite strong. (8) FEELING CAM LUCKY gets a chance to race against NW5000L5's at Yonkers after beating NW6000L5's at Pocono on the 23rd of June. I expect Siegelman to hustle him out of there and will hope he has to work some to get to the lead. (5) LORD OF MISRULE came through with a better effort last time against NW3000L5's at Pocono, rallying for second. He showed speed two back at the Meadowlands, and that might be what Brennan tries here.
Race 2 - MGM Springfield Stakes Elimination 2YO C&G Pace
(3) AMERICAN COURAGE is the lone horse in this field to have a pari-mutuel start, and it was an impressive one as he won by open lengths at Pocono. I don't expect much value, but I think that gives him a leg up on the rest who have only qualified thus far, and he kept Matt Kakaley over two from the Blake MacIntosh barn. (1) HE'S A SNOB drew the rail, and I'm sure he's been around the half-mile track at Goshen for Ray Schnittker enough times that Yonkers won't be a problem for him. His baby races at the Meadowlands have been decent. (2) MAJOR MAKOVER looks like the better of the two MacIntosh pupils in this elimination with that strong final quarter in his last qualifier at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Brennan goes on board with Kakaley sticking with my top pick.
Race 3 - MGM Springfield Stakes Elimination 2YO C&G Pace
(5) NOT TODAY comes out of the same race as American Courage does at Pocono (finished seventh). Marcus Miller was listed on both of his father's horses in this race and took this one, so maybe he expects some improvement in the second try. I will use. (3) SEND IT IN JEROME gained late in both of his baby races and switches back to Buter after Schnittker piloted him at the Meadowlands. Ray usually has his rookies ready to fire when they enter this event. (6) COALITION HANOVER showed versaility in his qualifiers at Magical Acres, flashing speed in one and rallying in the other. Dexter Dunn co-owns this son of Somebeachsomewhere and is here to drive him.
Race 4 - NW5000L5/Starters for a Base Claiming Price of $12,500 or $10,000 in 1 of 2 Last Starts Trot
(2) YUGE qualified fine at Magical Acres with trainer Ed Lohmeyer driving and picks up Andrew McCarthy here in his first start of 2020. This horse has plenty of experience racing at Yonkers since he's New York-sired, and he catches a group here he can go with. (3) MADMAN HALL got used pretty hard to make the lead from post eight on June 22 and paid the price. He gets a great deal of post relief tonight and also drops in class, and I imagine MacDonald will try similar tactics. (1) P L JERICO is sure to get plenty of notice sliding down a level off a third-place finish against NW10000L5's, but I'll attempt to beat him at what could be a low price.
Race 5 - NW5000L5/Starters for a Base Claiming Price of $12,500 or $10,000 in 1 of 2 Last Starts Pace
(4) BETTOR REASON N won three races at Monticello earlier this year and now picks up Bartlett against a beatable field with a qualifier over the track. (3) RANSOM DEMAND raced well and was hot property in the local $12,500 claimers this winter. He got to stretch his legs in the qualifier at Saratoga. Trainer Jordan Derue can have one ready to go, and I don't mind Scott Zeron getting up the assignment. (6) MELODIES MAJOR has become very win-shy since an excellent 2-year-old campaign, but he overcame a tough trip to finish third at the Meadowlands in his most recent effort.
Race 6 - NW5000L5/Starters for a Base Claiming Price of $12,500 or $10,000 in 1 of 2 Last Starts Pace
(1) NORTHERN SPORTSMAN shifts to the pole position tonight after he sat back and finished with a decent kick on 6-22. He makes his second start for trainer Nick Devita, and I think will be ready to go. (5) BRINGER OF RAIN raced very well in the $12,500 claimers at Saratoga during the winter months and comes south after a winning qualifier up there. I think that shows some confidence in the horse. (4) WILD GOOSE CHASE beat NW5000L5's last year in his debut for trainer Travis Alexander but hasn't found the winner's circle since. He could definitely wake up tonight, but I will only use underneath.
Race 7 - NW10000L5/Winner in Last Start of Base Class NW5000L5 or NW7500L5/Starters for a Base Claiming Price of $20,000 or Less in 1 of 2 Last Starts Trot
(6) DEWYCOLORINTHELINE likely needed that start at Pocono since he hadn't raced since back in September of 2019. I'll hope for aggressive handling by MacDonald tonight as this is a slightly easier spot and hope the veteran can take the victory. (2) IN MY DREAMS was Stratton's choice in here after he won that local qualifier by open lengths. He's won and/or been competitive in higher classes than this at Yonkers in the past. (5) ADAGIO DE LA TOUR broke stride while challenging for the lead in that one appearance on June 22. He qualified well at Magical Acres but loses Stratton tonight. He's still a legit threat at this level.
Race 8 - NW5000L5/Starters for a Base Claiming Price of $12,500 or $10,000 in 1 of 2 Last Starts Pace
(2) TYMAL PEACEMAKER rode the rail in his start at the Meadowlands on June 20 but did come home in 27 seconds and change. He beat NW10000L5's last year at Yonkers and better groups than this out of town as well, so I'll give a shot. (6) KEYSTONE HONOR turned in another strong performance at Yonkers on the 22nd of June, finishing second. He remains in this NW5000L5 level and will likely be a contender again. (1) BANK SEA continues to slide down the class ladder and also gets significant post relief after starting from the nine-hole at Pocono and the Meadowlands. He was Jim Marohn Jr.'s choice of two in this race.
