Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 7/4

Matt Rose|Jul 01, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 209 - 646 / $1,066.90 (-$225.10)

BEST BETS: 33 - 59 / $136.30 (+$18.30)

Best Bet: SHOOBEE DOO A (10th)

Spot Play: ST LADS BEAT IT (4th)

Race 1: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) TYGA HANOVER doesn't have much current form but neither do most of these and he does his best work with Bartlett in the bike. If he's unable to make the top he'll still be close enough to strike late. (1) VENIER HANOVER has been a failure for these connections since being reclaimed for $40K but he faces much softer and moves all the way inside; expect an aggressive effort. (2) TONY TOO TALL has also been rather dull of late and he too drops from the $40K claiming level.

Race 2: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) PAT STANLEY N was unable to reach in his last start but still finished with a solid last quarter and his prior start he ran down a good rival; post improvement makes him routine selecting. (1) WICHITA LINEMAN has hit the board in his last six races, with the last four after moving to the Dowse barn. Bartlett may be looking to take this field down the road. (6) TOWN GOSSIP has serious talent but the four-year-old is still stuck on just one win this season; Bongiorno trainee should be a player with these.

Race 3: $75,000 Claiming Pace

(7) I'M SOME GRADUATE bounced back from that failure two back with a nice closing effort to be third best last week; Dowse trainee doesn't seem to face a ton of early speed inside of him so maybe Bartlett will be enticed to take a flyer off the gate, at what should be a decent price. (2) HEISMAN PLAYER enjoyed a good trip last start and converted; he's a proven player at this level and always a big threat from inside posts. (4) REAL PEACE needs a smooth trip and can hit the board.

Race 4: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) ST LADS BEAT IT has been unable to get involved in his last two local races from outside posts but the move inside should make all the difference with this Harris trainee. (3) SON OF A TIGER N is another contender here due to the serious post relief after being stuck in the seven hole his last three starts. (1) RAUKAPUKA RULER N seems far removed from his Open-level days but the Pete Tritton trainee is still fast enough to get the job done.

Race 5: NW7875 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) BIG SIR faces a bit softer, gets major post relief and the Bucci trainee is capable of making one big move to get the job done. (3) OUR MAX PHACTOR N plunges from the $75K claiming level, where he hadn't been racing that badly, and he gets Bartlett back in the bike. Major player. (5) MIKEY CAMDEN shipped to Philly for his last start and something really clicked with this gelding as he reeled off a 1:50 3/5 pocket-rocket win. Bongiorno trainee looks to build off that effort as he faces tougher.

Race 6: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) HELLABALOU had a big three-year-old campaign but had some trouble getting underway this season, until that last race at Philly which was a sparkling win. Nifty Norman trainee picks up Bartlett and is the one to beat. (1) CONBOYVILLE put in a decent speed try last week in his local return and should be working out a live trip from this spot. (4) VIRGIL N picks up Stratton upon arrival from Harrington and we'll see how the Dylan Davis trainee fits with these.

Race 7: $75,000 Claiming Pace

(4) DELIGHTFUL TERROR has seemed to have found his stride for the Gillis barn and he gets important post improvement here. He's also Stratton's choice over his brother's horse, who he just missed with last out. (1) MAJOR BETTS is a major threat to take this field coast to coast. (5) ROLLING WITH SAM gets away from the eight hole and figures to be more involved.

Race 8: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) WINDSUN RICKY moves all the way inside and doesn't face an especially strong bunch here. Stafford trainee almost always offers good value. (4) SHNEONUCRZYDIAMND A has just been going evenly of late but this may be a spot where Dube tries to get aggressive with the veteran. (3) SAULSBROOK HERO was unable to gain into a quick back half last week, snapping his winning streak. Forte trainee is capable here.

Race 9: Open Handicap Pace

(5) LEONIDAS A is back from Northfield where he was too far back to threaten in the Battle of Lake Erie. He faces a solid grouping here but ending up with a midpack post (by winning the 5 thru 8 draw) makes him the one to beat. (6) TATTOO ARTIST got baked in the Battle but he's back on familiar ground and interestingly Dave Miller is listed to drive the speedy 5-year-old. (7) FUNATTHEBEACH N was the upset Borgata winner, the upset Battle winner, has banked more than any horse in North America this year, yet may still be on the outside looking in from this spot. No respect!

Race 10: NW30601 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) SHOOBEE DOO A didn't have much success here earlier in the year but he's been razor-sharp at Harrington and he returns into a pretty soft field for this level. (2) ESCAPETOTHEBEACH successfully dropped and popped last week and he draws well here; gelding can certainly be a part of this. (5) WALKINSHAW N has regained top form in his last couple facing a bit lesser.

Race 11: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(4) ALOTBETTOR N has good early speed that can set him up nicely (like that winning trip two back). Devita trainee usually offers good value. (3) BARBADOS won from a similar spot last week with Bartlett; he'll be favored to repeat.(8) DARK ENERGY N's big form spree was derailed in his first start off the Cory Stratton claim but he did manage to pick up a check after being too far back. If Jordan can somehow get him into the race he can beat these.
