BEST BET - ODDS ON HOLLYWOOD (1st)
SPOT PLAY - HEISMAN PLAYER (8th)
Race 1 - F&M NW2/25000LT Pace
(6) ODDS ON HOLLYWOOD obtained significant experience racing on a half-mile track in those stakes events at Freehold last year, and I like both of her qualifiers at Gaitway as she closed in 27 and change both times. (2) SENDMETOTHESTARS finished third from post nine against NW1's at Pocono and the winner of that race came over to Yonkers to win an Excelsior A Series event in her next try. (1) EVEN LOUDER has come in second against NW2 locally before and has a live trainer-driver combo right now with Siegleman and Devita.
Race 2 - NW5000L5/12500CLM Trot
(1) MISSUS MIA WALLACE gets a little bit of a drop after a third in a NW6000L5 at Pocono and also made up ground in the last quarter in her start before that at the Meadowlands. (7) MUZZY'S MUSCLES kept Brennan's services tonight for DiDomenico and showed improvement in that starts back on the 22nd of June, closing some in the late stages. (3) FINNICK ODAIR was in higher classes back in the winter and so this is a soft spot for his first appearance off the shelf.
Race 3 - NW2/25000LT Pace
(3) MV OK PALACIO BR showed some real determination in his first try at Yonkers, battling back after getting passed to score. I hope he repeats but doesn't need to sweat it out quite as much. (1) BRAZEN BRAZILIAN finished third from post seven in the event my top pick comes out of, switches to the pole position after starting from post seven, and kept Jordan Stratton. (2) MISTER REBBILY A found a very soft spot at the Meadowlands and took advantage with a dominating win. Dexter Dunn guided him to that win and steers him again tonight.
Race 4 - MGM Springfield Stakes Final 2YO C&G Pace
(7) COALITION HANOVER did the hard work from first-over last Monday and was a good second in a paceless race. I'm going to hope they mix it up a little more with the big money on the line here in the final and that this horse also improves since that was his pari-mutuel debut. (4) AMERICAN COURAGE didn't have the easiest time getting to the lead in his elimination, but once he did he absolutely romped. He's the one to beat again tonight and drew well. (3) CARRYTHETORCHMAN had things his own way on the engine and delivered. I'm expecting he won't have it so easy this time, but he's a definite contender as he draws inside the favorite and gets a better post after having the six in his elimination.
Race 5 - F&M NW4/50000LT Pace
(3) DIAMONDS ARE TRUMP was the runner-up from post eight against NW4's most recently and receives significant post relief tonight. Bartlett does opt off, but I don't mind Dexter Dunn taking over for a high-percentage barn like the Andrew Harris stable. (5) MILLWOOD BONNIE N finished second to So Rude in that race on the 22nd of June. So Rude came back to win a New York Sire Stakes event, and the horse who finished third, Golden Quest N, also won next time out. (2) NORTH STAR IDEAL qualified very impressively over the track on June 29 and beat NW4's back in February. The Milici horses have been getting bet strongly but not winning since racing resumed, so I am hoping for some value elsewhere.
Race 6 - NW4/50000LT Pace
(6) CROSSCUT topped a NW4 field in from first-over and in game fashion on 6-22. That was a good horse he beat too in Hysteria, and I'm hoping Bartlett can get him out on or near the lead and maybe get the jump on the big morning line favorite in here. (5) THE MOONSHADOW N owns a win at Pocono over NW6's but other than that start he's been raced pretty conservatively. I think he's got some talent, but given his racing style and this being his first start over a half, at least in North America, I'll try and beat him. (1) STONEBRIDGE MACH comes down from Saratoga after finishing second in two straight appearances. It's sometimes hard to get a gauge on the shippers from up there, but I like that he has the pole and consecutive sub-28 second final quarters.
Race 7 - NW10000L5/Winners of the Base Class NW5000L5 in Last Start/20000CLM Trot
(2) CASA PALMERA had to need that start at Harrah's Philadelphia since he'd had just one qualifier back in April since last November. Trainer Ed Lohmeyer sent out a winner last Monday, this horse has won at Yonkers before, and George Brennan takes over the driving. (1) MAJESTIC BRAYDEN raced in higher classes when last seen at Yonkers and shows a second-place finish against NW20000L5's in November of last year. He was a good second in the qualifier at Pocono from post nine, and I think MacDonald will be aggressive from post one. (5) CASINO CUTIE IT disappointed at low odds at Pocono and wasn't Brennan's choice tonight. She has raced well at Yonkers before, including a second in a NW15000L5 in February.
Race 8 - NW8/100000LT Pace
(3) HEISMAN PLAYER kept getting in races that included Tattoo Artist up in Canada, and he's probably the best Ontario-sired 3YO pacer right now. He has plenty of local experience, including a win back in February, and I will use. (8) TELLITSABB has been wicked good since joining the Travis Alexander barn, winning five of six this year. His one loss came here at Yonkers from post eight, and I'll hope maybe the same situation bites him again, otherwise he's going to be pretty tough. (5) MEADOWBROOK FLASH raced pretty conservatively back on June 29, but with that start under his belt, Siegelman might go back to firing out like he was during the wintertime when this horse got quite good.
