Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 6/19

Matt Rose|Jun 16, 2023
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2023 MEET STATS: 221 - 643 / $1,073.50 (-$212.50)

BEST BETS: 37 - 61 / $116.20 (-$5.80)

BEST BET: SPEED MAN N (9th)

SPOT PLAY: JK STANDINGOVATION (7th)

Race 1: Can You Go The Distance Leg #3 Pace

(2) ANOTHRMASTRPIECE N was stuck in the eight hole in leg #1 of this series, which was just one lap around the track, but last week at the traditional distance he crushed in 1:51 4/5. Tonight is the 1 1/16 distance, which in my opinion is no different than a mile race. Tritton trainee repeats. (5) STRIKING IMPACT doesn't have much early speed but he shouldn't be too far back and he can grind up for a piece. (1) THRASHER has been going well for Garcia-Herrera and will look for the pocket trip.

Race 2: 3-5YO $50,000 Claiming Pace

(3) SILENT SPLENDOR has found a home at this claiming level as he's got a third and a nice pocket win in his last two tries. He's facing much of the same here but there could be some value in seeking a repeat. (1) KING JAMES EXPRESS was collared by the top choice last week and now goes for another new barn in Daguet, and he lands the rail in this short field and gains Bartlett. (2) UMBERTO is an obvious candidate to hit the ticket again.

Race 3: Can You Go The Distance Leg #3 Pace

(5) ROCK DIAMONDS N is on a six-race winning streak and the Jenn Bongiorno-trained veteran gets top billing until further notice. (3) WAR DAN DELIGHT N closed in :27 3/5 last week to rally for third after consecutive upset wins. Post improvement should get him first run to the top. (2) C BET HANOVER has been going pretty well of late and he was second best the last time leading driver Bartlett was in the bike.

Race 4: NW30001 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) A ROCKNROLL STAR has the winning knack with 9 tallies in 14 tries this year. He comes back to Yonkers in search of an easier spot, and he may have found one here. (3) HICKFROMFRENCHLICK steps up again off the strength of two wire-to-wire wins and his early speed always makes him dangerous. (7) PRICELESS BEACH drops from the Open, where he finished second last week, but he draws the worst post. Tough to win coming from last, so I'll assume Kakaley will try pushing from the gate.

Race 5: $40,000-$50,000 Claiming Pace

(6) POINTOMYGRANSON has been a monster since returning to Yonkers, and he's done well for multiple barns. Tonight he debuts for Berkeley and keeps driver Kakaley, who jogged with him on the front end last week. (2) TOWNLINE ALL GOOD is back in for a tag and lands a good inside post in this claiming handicap. Engblom trainee is the most logical threat to the top choice. (3) ALOTBETTOR N steps up to face tougher but he's been in great form and always offers value. He can save ground from this spot and land a nice piece.

Race 6: Can You Go The Distance Leg #3 Pace

(2) FORTIFY has certainly regained his stride since returning to Yonkers, with two wins on the front end and a good finish in the half-mile affair. Brennan figures to be looking for control early on. (6) PEACE OUT POSSE went a huge parked-out trip last week and held game to be second best to #2. This barn has been firing on all cylinders lately and this gelding must be considered despite another outside draw. (5) QUALITY BUD put in yet another solid effort last week and the highest money earner in the field this year can never be counted out.

Race 7: $30,000-$35,000 Claiming Pace

(3) JK STANDINGOVATION lacks the class and experience of most of these but that was an eventful try in his local return and I do feel confident with these connections. (5) BETTER B SWIFT has been solid lately and now goes for Devita off the claim while staying at a winning level. (4) BRACKLEY BEACH was scratched sick last week but he is right back in to go and he gets an interesting driver change to Bartlett.

Race 8: Open Handicap Pace

(5) COVERED BRIDGE is back from Ohio where he was in the Battle of Lake Erie at Northfield but was bottled up the entire way. Figuring he didn't exert too much energy in that race he should be fresh and good to go in his return to his home base. (3) JACK'S LEGEND N was picked off late after cutting the mile last start and now he moves back towards the inside. Kakaley figures to be heading for the front again. (7) IDEALSOMEMAGIC A dominated on the front end last week and now the price goes way up as he lands outside. Do we see a return to off-the-pace tactics tonight? Very possible.

Race 9: NW30000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) SPEED MAN N is a favorite in this column because his speed usually sets him up nicely on or near the lead and he always offers value. Drop from the Open to this slightly easier field can get him back over the top. (5) SPLASH BROTHER is another speedy type and the Schnittker trainee has been going well recently. (1) WALKINSHAW N moves all the way inside and he should be good for a share.

Race 10: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) ARDEN MESSI N gave it a good try from the eight hole last week but was gunned down by a sharp import. While he moves up in class here he doesn't face much tougher and from the inside post he can get it done. (3) KINGSVILLE exits the Popup series for this spot and he was second and third his last two tries at this level. (5) TRACEUR HANOVER has a lot of miles on the odometer but the veteran is still going well; Burke ships him in from Philly and he may fit well here.

Race 11: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) TYGA HANOVER gets much-needed post relief in his second return start and should have more to offer. (2) SAVE ME A DANCE returns to Yonkers in a much softer spot and the Engblom trainee was predictably Bartlett's choice over #1. He's improved since moving to this barn but he's no cinch and will be overbet. (6) CODY HANOVER is fresh Bongiorno stock arriving from The Meadows and he's definitely worthy of a look.

Race 12: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) ALLUNEEDISFAITH N has not surprisingly turned thing around since returning locally and the Bako trainee goes for his third straight while up in class again. Tougher test but I think he's up for it. (4) SONNY WEAVER N is steady stock from the Cullipher barn and Bartlett drives again. (7) YOROKOBI N charged home to beat softer in his U.S. debut and the Pete Tritton import can obviously have more in the tank; 15/1 shot must be given a look.
