Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 6/12

Matt Rose|Jun 09, 2023
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2023 MEET STATS: 182 - 513 / $853.30 (-$172.70)

BEST BETS: 30 - 48 / $96.70 (+$0.70)

BEST BET: ROCK DIAMONDS N (1st)

SPOT PLAY: CAPTIVATE HANOVER (7th)

Race 1: Can You Go The Distance leg #2 Pace

(3) ROCK DIAMONDS N has been sharp in every start since joining the Bongiorno barn and the veteran will go for five straight on the front end. (1) BILL HALEY N chased the top one last week in the one-lap affair and was second best; he's likely to be in the pocket again. (5) STRIKING IMPACT took two straight for Bako before having no chance in the half-mile sprint starting from the outside. Back to a traditional distance he's looking at a good share.

Race 2: $40,000/$50,000 Claiming Pace

(5) POINTOMYGRANSON goes for his fourth barn in as many weeks and stays at the winning level but goes for a higher price by being handicapped near the outside. He can win another if not used too early. (1) GINGER TREE PETE has also been popular at the claim box and he's back with Laterza in a live spot from the rail. (3) ARRHYTHMIC SURGE was third best to the top two last start, figures as high tonight.

Race 3: Can You Go The Distance leg #2 Pace

(2) SECOND BRUISER is back at the mile distance where he's done well since arriving from Canada and he gets the call despite Bartlett going with the Tritton-trained #3. (3) ANOTHRMASTRPIECE N was bet to 6/5 odds despite having the eight hole in the 1/2 mile race and he couldn't get close. It's a different story tonight. It figures that as soon as I stopped chasing (6) WAR DAN DELIGHT he wins two in a row, at 27/1 and 32/1. He'll be a big price again.

Race 4: NW30000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) AMERICAN DEALER N was overtaken late in his local return but it was still a game effort to be second best; Toscano trainee is capable of rebounding from this spot. (2) FUNATTHEBEACH N has tailed off recently but it's not like he's been bad; we know he's capable of turning things around in a hurry and the post improvement and smaller field well help. (1) ON ACCIDENT has been solid for lower-profile connections and he's got the speed to protect position from the rail.

Race 5: 3-5YO $50,000 Claiming Pace

(5) PINEBUSH LIFESAVER made his first start off the $30K Forte claim last week and set a new life mark in the $40's; he now moves up in price again to the age-restricted 50's but the sharp sort seems capable of reaching again as the second or third choice. (2) KING JAMES EXPRESS goes from Burke to Bako looking for three straight and is obviously quite logical from this spot. (3) SILENT SPLENDOR cut the mile that #2 won last week and he fizzled to third; he'll likely be off the pace tonight and can land another piece.

Race 6: NW10621 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) B LIKE CRUISER had no realistic chance last week when stuck at the back of the pack in a race that went :57 and change to the half. Major post relief helps the cause. (7) DELIGHTFUL TERROR hasn't panned out yet since being claimed for $40K but he was second best when last at this level. We'll see if Brennan can generate some early speed with him. (3) YOROKOBI N is the latest Down-Under shipper for Peter Tritton and he had just a ho-hum qualifier. Keep an eye on him though and look for signs of life in the wagering.

Race 7: Open Pace

(2) CAPTIVATE HANOVER has been a very live claim so far for Garcia-Herrera as he's made it to the Open level and already has a win with these. He'll be chasing #1 either from the pocket or a spot behind and will offer much more value than that one. (1) NONE BETTOR A is the most logical here as he moves all the way inside and Gingras will be looking to go coast to coast. (5) IDEALSOMEMAGIC A woke up last week with a win and Brennan may be inclined to leave the gate tonight.

Race 8: Can You Go The Distance leg #2 Pace

(3) LOU'S BEACH raced well last week at the shorter distance and that was just his second start for new connections. He may lack the class of some of the others in here but I think the 4YO is capable. (1) DELIGHTFUL DUDE N has been accustomed to facing better and he's really woken up when dropped in class; obvious contender. (2) BOILING OAR will be on or near the lead but needs to show a bit more late.

Race 9: Open Handicap Pace

(7) JACK'S LEGEND N jogged last week in his local return and he's a proven Open-type pacer; veteran has the early speed to overcome the poor draw and should offer a price. (4) HELLABALOU was the Borgata winner at 47/1 but other than that he's been very average. This is a very good spot to show more, however. (2) AIR FORCE HANOVER steps up to the top class and seems overmatched class-wise but he's been super since moving to the Daguet barn; small share is a possibility.

Race 10: Can You Go The Distance leg #2 Pace

(3) FORTIFY closed a few spots for a board spot in the short dash so logic would dictate that moving back to the regular mile and landing a better post will get the Burke trainee back on the winning track. (1) SHADOW CAT is always a major player when drawn inside. (5) TOWNLINE ALL GOOD hails from top connections and must be considered.

Race 11: NW23251 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) JUDDY DOUGLAS A was a touch short from the pocket and does need to step things up overall but he does land inside again and goes back to his main driver Kakaley. (8) SPLASH BROTHER has proven early speed to overcome the draw and he fits well here class-wise. (3) WICHITA LINEMAN gets some needed class relief and also moves back towards the inside as he looks to finally make an impression for his current barn.

Race 12: $30,000 Claiming Pace

I'm looking to beat the obvious chalk in (1) BETTER B SWIFT but there's nobody reliable enough to upset. Blumenfeld trainee has taken two straight at this $30K level and is dropped right back in. (3) KEYSTONE DASH is a frustrating type because he seems to underachieve so often. He is capable of firing to the front. (5) BRACKLEY BEACH doesn't like to win but hits the board often.
