Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 5/6

Matt Rose|May 03, 2024
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2024 MEET STATS: 134 - 445 / $732.30 (-$157.70)

BEST BETS: 20 - 38 / $72.40 (-$3.60)

BEST BET: DANCE ON THE BEACH (2nd)

SPOT PLAY: HEMSWORTH N (8th)

Race 1: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) SPEED MAN N has a win and two seconds the last three times Brennan drove and this classy veteran's early speed always makes him dangerous. (3) VENIER HANOVER was not a threat when boxed in last week on the class hike but he still appears sharp. (8) ROCK THE BELLES was well meant from the tough post last start and was beaten a nose. Bongiorno trainee can be a player again despite the outside spot.

Race 2: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(2) DANCE ON THE BEACH dropped back to this $30K level and wired the field pretty easily; he faces much of the same tonight and can repeat. (1) ARTIST BEST has been second best his last three and is likely to sit the pocket again to the top one. (4) BARON MICHAEL kicked home off cover with a good rally last week can and be on the scene late again.

Race 3: 3-6YO $50,000 Claiming Pace

(2) TWIN B DELUXE moves to the Bako barn via claim and remains at the same level where he's been live; Kakaley gets the drive and he figures to be controlling the action. (6) JUST ENUFF STUFF was a solid second last week and depending on what #5 does he may be firing from the gate looking for a spot. (1) DONTLIKEITLEAVE is back from Delaware and he cruised from the rail three back in his lone local start. Does Stratton pocket #2 and cut the mile?

Race 4: NW25001 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) THIS IS THE PLAN is nowhere near the horse he used to be but the triple millionaire still looks like he can compete at high levels and figures to have the tactical edge on main rival (2) NANDOLO N who is obviously capable of grinding by. (3) POUND FOR POUND has been a new horse the last two but now he faces tougher.

Race 5: 3-6YO Open Pace - $10K Pick 5

(6) DUNKIN' took a week off after his 5th place finish in the Borgata final from the eight hole. Jim Marohn, Jr gets the drive tonight and though he faces an uncertain trip I have to give this guy a chance. (7) ITS A ME MARIO lands all the way outside but Bartlett sticks with him over a horse he won twice with in the Borgata. If #6 isn't firing does this 4YO take a shot? (2) ADAM TWELVE has been a model of consistency and deserves serious respect as the potential main inside speed.

Race 6: 3-5YO $30,000 Claiming Pace

(3) TAKE A CLOSER LOOK was a nose shy of a four-race winning streak then moved up in class and landed the eight hole. Toss that line out because back down at the $30K level from a decent post he's more than likely the one to catch. (5) THAT DOG WILL HUNT seems to have found a home at this level and should be a player. (7) SURFSIDE BEACH took all the money last week and was sent to the front by Kakaley, who bails for #3. Can new driver Stratton get him in play?

Race 7: NW10221 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) GREAT SOMEWHERE drops in class back to the level he dominated six starts ago and he has a post edge on his main contenders. (3) BUGABOO LOU was much-improved last start for Burke and he goes for two straight. (5) OCEAN RIDGE set a quick clip facing $50K claimers last week and tired; Bartlett drives again.

Race 8: Invitational Pace

(3) HEMSWORTH N paced a big back half en route to the victory last week and he faces many of the same tonight, and from a reasonable post in this open draw. Stratton picks up the drive on the Bako trainee going for the repeat. (2) SUMOMENTSOMWHERE A, like the top choice, came out of the Borgata series and was worn down late under harsh pressure. He's a big player again. (7) WHATS STANLEY GOT A was a Borgata finalist and certainly didn't disgrace himself with that fourth-place finish. Problem here is the post.

Race 9: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(1) BIG SIR moves all the way inside and more importantly the Blackler trainee is reunited with Bartlett. Wouldn't surprise me if he tried to control these on the front end. (4) YS DO IT RIGHT was claimed last week by Cory Stratton and gets a look on the barn-change angle. (2) MOTIVE HANOVER was razor-sharp recently against $40's but hasn't been all that good in his last couple; vulnerable favorite?

Race 10: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(7) MAXIMUS RED A made up plenty of ground to nail the leader last week and overall this veteran has been sharp all season long. Tough post but he does have speed and projects to be a healthy price. (4) REAL WILLEY put in a great effort last week but was nailed by #7. Three back he was an easy winner from a similar spot and he's the deserving favorite. (5) SAN DOMINO A was claimed for 40K two back and tried $50's to no avail. Owner/trainer Garcia-Herrera drops back down and new driver Mark Macdonald has options with this classy vet.
