Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 5/13

Matt Rose|May 10, 2024
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2024 MEET STATS: 134 - 445 / $732.30 (-$157.70)

BEST BETS: 20 - 38 / $72.40 (-$3.60)

BEST BET: SURFSIDE BEACH (6th)

SPOT PLAY: MAXIMUS RED A (2nd)

Race 1: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) SPEED MAN N is on a mini-run as he steps up again looking for three straight. Will he have a tactical edge on #6 here, who was too far back last week at 1/20 odds? It's possible. (6) CHIMICHURRI N had too much ground to make up in a quick back half in that race last week. I do have a feeling that Bartlett won't let that happen again, but will be rooting against him. (4) ROCKIN JUKEBOX fits well with these and the Bongiorno trainee is a legit contender; he may offer the best value of the top three.

Race 2: $40,000 Claiming Pace

Oh look...another five-horse affair. (2) MAXIMUS RED A never got involved last week from the outside post but otherwise he's been rock-solid since being claimed for $30K by these connections. (1) SAN DOMINO A dropped back to the level of the recent claim and responded with a better effort; classy vet hasn't been on the lead in ages but that's likely to change tonight. (5) THRASHER has missed time with a sick scratch and he's probably coming from last; I'll pass on top, but with Bartlett picking up the drive and his proven record at this level he'll be no surprise.

Race 3: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(5) THAT DOG WILL HUNT was taken out of his last start by the Laterza barn, and they've done well this year playing the claiming game. Holland picks up the drive and I expect aggressive handling. (1) PINEBUSH LIFESAVER takes an important drop in class but will that be enough to wake this guy up? Two back I was alive for a nice score with him and he had a really smooth trip but as soon at Bartlett called on him and I started to get excited he had nothing to offer. (4) YS DO IT RIGHT got claimed again last start, now goes for DiDomenico with Brennan driving; consider.

Race 4: Invitational Pace

(6) HELLABALOU is reunited with Joe B, who knows a little something about driving this guy. 2x Borgata champ is back from a second-place effort in a $100K invite at Miami Valley and he deserves top billing despite his outside post assignment. (3) WHATS STANLEY GOT A has been outracing his odds all season and he may be a price again, but should have a live chance from this improved post. (4) ENERGETIC HANOVER has put in three great efforts since arriving from Delaware culminating with last week's win. Sam Bowie-owned 5YO has the tools needed to repeat.

Race 5: 3-6YO $50,000 Claiming Pace

Usually not a big fan of these types but (5) ADMIRAL HANOVER ships up from Harrington off three consecutive solid wins, all in the 1:53 range. Perhaps he's classified appropriately here and will be good right off the bat for his new barn. (6) JUST ENUFF STUFF has two seconds and a win in his last three at this level and can obviously repeat. (1) SHAKESPEARE is back off a month-plus break in action and he's proven with this type. He also lands a rare inside post.

Race 6: 3-5YO $30,000 Claiming Pace

(2) SURFSIDE BEACH took money from the outside past week but didn't get involved until the late stages when he rallied for third. Major post relief makes the Bako trainee the one to beat. (3) ON DAYBOO arrives locally now in the Bongoirno barn and some of those Freehold efforts from back in March indicate that he may be competitive here. (6) TAKE A CLOSER LOOK was won four of his last six and remains a serious player despite the less-than-ideal post.

Race 7: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) JAHAN HANOVER drops back down in class and moves all the way inside, plus Bartlett is back driving. He was a close second three back from a similar spot. (6) OCEAN RIDGE N tried new tactics last week and it almost worked as he closed sharply to just miss. Could be a price option here. (3) FORTIFY is logical from these connections dropping in class from a live post but his last was disappointing.

Race 8: NW33501 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) LEONIDAS A took some time off after his underwhelming display in the Borgata series and he's 0 for 11 and counting this year but he's too good to just totally write off. I'll give him a shot here from the rail facing a fully-stacked field of four rivals. (5) ANOTHRMASTRPIECE N is in a bad news-good news scenario. The bad news is he draws the outermost post here, the good news is it's only post five. After being too far back in his last couple does Bartlett send him tonight? (2) NONE BETTOR A makes just his second start of the year after finishing third last week and the 11YO millionaire could have more to offer.

Race 9: 3-6YO Open Pace

(4) DUNKIN' finished with pace last week after lingering at the rear most of the way. He lands a bit better post tonight and figures to be more involved. (5) ITS A ME MARIO comes out of the same race as the top choice and this guy flew home from last to make it close. Lightly-raced 4YO from the Shane Tritton barn is 6 for 8 this year and I don't think we've seen his best. (3) NIGHT HAWK has a tactical edge on the top ones and the Burke trainee may be first to the front.

Race 10: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(5) NOWHERE CREEK A was a sharp winner in a big back half last week for a barn that's going well. He moves outside a couple of slots but facing much of the same he gets the call to repeat. (4) GLACIS gets post relief plus a change to Kakaley; maybe he shows more at a price. (2) ARTIST BEST has been second best in his last four and he draws well again; DiDomenico trainee is a major candidate to hit the ticket again.

Race 11: NW10851 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) VENIER HANOVER takes a drop in class off two consecutive races where he stayed in and was willing late. We've seen this guy brush and crush in the past so maybe he catches the leader napping. (5) GREG THE LEG stays at the same level after wiring the field at 1/9 last week. (2) SEMI TOUGH was on a big roll earlier in the year before the Borgata stalled him. Burke trainee does lay over this field class-wise. (1) JUST BET IT ALL has rail, Bartlett/Engblom in his corner, but no value.
