Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 5/1

Matt Rose|Apr 28, 2023
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2023 MEET STATS: 129 - 364 / $584.70 (-$143.30)

BEST BETS: 23 - 34 / $76.80 (+$8.80)

BEST BET: JUDDY DOUGLAS A (4th)

SPOT PLAY: NOME HANOVER (2nd)

Race 1: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) WINDSUN RICKY was unable to reach in his last couple of races but he gets some needed class relief here as he drops from the Open and NW30000 to this more comfortable spot. Holland is back driving and he can strike from just off the pace. (2) THE REGULATOR also gets both class and post relief and the Engblom trainee will be looking to take these down the road. (7) PEACE OUT POSSE gets severely hampered by the outside post but the Bongiorno trainee does fit well with these and will offer a good price. Joe B has had a nice driving run recently, with wins in the Borgata and John Brennan finals last week.

Race 2: NW30001 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) NOME HANOVER was a solid pocket-sitting winner in his first start back from a two-month vacation and the sharp sort seems well-spotted here facing a bit better, as he's inside a couple of big speed players. (4) CERTIFIABLE has hit the board in every race since being claimed for these connections and he should be in line for a live trip. (5) OAKWOODNITTOWNIT IR only faces four rivals here but from the outside post making the lead could be tough and that obviously compromises his chances.

Race 3: NW15001 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) NANDOLO N had a rough go of it throughout the Borgata series and he's right back in for a seventh consecutive week now facing much easier. Tritton trainee has no excuse to fail. (2) GAMBLINGTERROR has been solid in his last two starts and he lands another good inside post. (6) OUR CORELLI N drops a notch and gets Kakaley back in the bike. They teamed up for a win at this level back in March.

Race 4: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) JUDDY DOUGLAS A was much-improved on the dropdown last race and he gets to drop another level tonight. Alexander trainee looks ready to roll. (1) ALEX TYE moves back inside and figures to be sitting on a live trip. (6) GROOVY JOE had a useful tightener last week at Pocono and now he picks up Bartlett making his second start off the shelf. He's got loads of back class.

Race 5: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(5) OURRHYTHMNBLUES N was clearly no match for the $50K claimers so the DiDomenico trainee drops back down a level and Brennan figures to return to aggressive handling. If he can make the front without too much trouble he could be tough to catch. (2) JOJO'S PLACE has taken three straight while in the Berkeley barn and he'll be a major player again tonight. (4) GINGER TREE PETE debuted for new connections last week and was quickly reclaimed by his prior barn, where he had won two in a row. Bartlett is back driving.

Race 6: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(6) TOWNLINE ALL GOOD put in a solid speed try last week before getting collared in the late stages by the sharp Wichita Lineman; with that one now going for new connections I'll give the Engblom trainee the call. (3) THRASHER didn't fire off cover in the same race as the top choice but that was a quick back half he was trying to gain into. Trainer Garcia-Herrera leaves him at the same level and he does get a bit of post improvement. (5) WICHITA LINEMAN goes for three straight and five of six overall but as mentioned he's in a new barn now off the claim so it's always a question if he can maintain his form. Bartlett's choice of three in here.

Race 7: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) PINEBUSH LIFESAVER was claimed two back by the Bongiorno barn for $30K despite not having the greatest career record and while he was not a factor first off the barn change he was beaten less than two lengths facing $40K claimers. Tonight he plunges in class and he gets to show what he's got. (1) FLOW WITH JOE also drops down, draws inside and looks like the main threat. (5) SILENT SPLENDOR was a good second two back with similar then dropped to the basement and picked up a long-awaited win. Sharp sort could threaten despite drawing outside his main competition.

Race 8: Open Pace

Good race where a case can be made for all five that are signed on, so what the heck I'll mention them all. (2) SPEED MAN N has a knack for working out live trips and it should be no different tonight facing just four rivals. He may offer some value as well, like he often does. (5) TAKE A GAMBLE has been on a huge form spree and the outside post may not slow him down at all as he goes for five straight. (1) ULTIMAROCA has also been on a roll for Burke and he was last week's Open winner. Brennan gets the call with Yannick not here. (3) QUALITY BUD has never been better and he closed a ton last week to be second to #1. (4) CAPTIVATE HANOVER earns a bump to the top level on the strength of that powerful win versus NW30000 types. Looks like a solid claim for Garcia-Herrera.

Race 9: NW15476 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) THE IDEAL DANCER A has been much better in his last couple and just missed last week despite the long trip. He faces a softer field here and looks like the one to beat, despite Bartlett opting to #1. (3) MICKY GEE N is back in on consecutive weeks as he attempts yet another comeback. When right he can close a ton. (1) BLANK STARE draws the rail and the Cullipher trainee was Bartlett's choice, but he hasn't been a serious threat in most of his recent local efforts.

Race 10: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(4) CHANGE STRIDE N was knocking on the door prior to last week's easy win and he seems capable of wearing down likely favorite (3) PEDRO HANOVER, who has been collared in his last two, but takes an important drop back to the $30K level. (2) WAR DAN DELIGHT N was put on the front end last start but that didn't work out. He goes for another new barn tonight and figures to be sitting just off the pace, where he'll probably be more effective.
