Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 4/8

Matt Rose|Apr 05, 2024
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2024 MEET STATS: 68 - 224 / $400.60 (-$47.40)

BEST BETS: 11 - 19 / $39.50 (+$1.50)

BEST BET: MOTIVE HANOVER (9th)

SPOT PLAY: AMERICAN DEALER N (6th)

Race 1: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(2) KB MAC finally draws a good post in a pretty soft field for this class and he hasn't raced badly in seven seasonal starts despite not hitting the board. Let's see what he's got to offer at what should be a good price. (3) J B GRAM arrives from Dover in good form and the connections drop him in for the $30K base tag hoping this is the proper classification. I'm not taking a short price on top to find that out. (6) HURRIKANE GEORGIE gets Bartlett to catch drive tonight and could spice up the number with a favorable trip.

Race 2: 3-5YO $50,000 Claiming Pace

(1) STRIKING IMPACT had been sitting on a winning effort and got the score at odds-on last start; drawing the rail here he'll be favored to repeat. (4) JUST ENUFF STUFF wasn't a serious threat last week but that was coming off a sick scratch. Bongiorno trainee is back on consecutive weeks and should have more to offer. (2) AUSSIE HANOVER should be close to the pace throughout and can land a share.

Race 3: MGM Borgata Leg #4 Pace

(1) DUNKIN' has now taken two straight Borgata prelims on the front end and guess what? He lands the rail again in this six-horse affair. Tonight's the big test as he goes up against the undefeated (5) DESPERATE MAN and the uber-classy (4) COVERED BRIDGE. Should be interesting.

Race 4: MGM Borgata Leg #4 Pace

(3) FUNATTHEBEACH N was uncovered and grinding into a rated pace and could not pose a serious threat to the frontrunners. I'm willing to excuse that effort and give him another chance. (2) LEONIDAS A was much better last week as the veteran is trying to regain his form of years past. (1) PLEASELETMEKNOW took a week off from the series and qualified at The Meadowlands with Lasix added. Alexander trainee looks to improve on his two 3rd-place finishes so far in the series.

Race 5: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(2) OZONE BLUE CHIP gets major post relief after a couple of aggressive tries and this veteran is always a major player with a good draw. (4) THRASHER gave it three shots at the $50K level but only picked up minor shares; drops back to a class he's proven at. (3) AMERICAN ZEST A has been very sharp for the Stalbaum barn and while he does face better now he deserves a long look.

Race 6: Invitational Pace

(3) AMERICAN DEALER N is up in class here despite not winning in his last two starts but the Toscano trainee has plenty of experience and success at these top levels in the past and the post improvement should get him more involved early. (4) TAKE A GAMBLE used a smooth pocket trip to be second best (to #7) last start. Prior start was a sharp win at the NW30K level. (6) ADAM TWELVE fires from the gate practically every start but he did manage to lose his last at 1/20 odds; ouch!

Race 7: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) FEARFUL INTENT got a couple of races in at Freehold where he picked up a win and a third at their top level, both from off the pace; Cullipher trainee is back at Yonkers seemingly in better shape than when he left. (7) ALL ALONE has been raging for the Engblom barn and he gets to stay at a winning level by meeting the NW10 AE condition. (1) ROCKIN JUKEBOX hasn't exactly turned heads in four 2024 starts but he's down in class and lands the rail.

Race 8: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(2) HIGH ON ROCKNROLL failed to get involved from the outside post last week but he moves all the way to the two hole and the DiDomenico trainee figures to be in the thick of the action. He's been good in practically every start since arriving at Yonkers. (1) PASSA GRILLE BEACH has speed, the rail draw and Holland. Figures to be heading down the road. (3) PINEBUSH LIFESAVER has been competitive in the $40's but now drops to the $30K claiming level; contender.

Race 9: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(6) MOTIVE HANOVER has two straight wins at this level and if Joe B. can make the front without too much trouble he can pick up the hat trick. (3) KING JAMES EXPRESS has been a steady commodity lately and now drops in price while drawing decently. (4) AS ALWAYS has disappointed since that win four back, but still can't count these connections out.

Race 10: MGM Borgata Leg #4 Pace

Four inside rivals all have a legit chance of taking this but I'll look all the way to the rail with (1) ROCKNROLL RUNA A. The Stalbaum trainee has been super for an extended period of time and driver Mark Macdonald gets along well with him. Despite winning two legs of the Borgata already he may offer a bit of value with #2 expected to take action. (4) HELLABALOU finished much better last week just missing after firing from the outermost post. Last year's champ can make the lead. (2) BACKSTREET SHADOW gets the post relief he needs to fire his best shot.

Race 11: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(1) TUGGIN ON MY HEART was a sharp front-end winner again making it four straight despite stepping up in class off the Laterza claim. Why not again? (5) FULSOME is the other main speed in here and Gingras may be looking for the pocket seat again. (2) REIGNING DEO prevailed last week at 3/5 and now steps up in price. He'll have to bring his beat in order to repeat.

Race 12: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(1) ROSE RUN X-CON found life a little tough when he jumped from NW5000 to $40K claimers and after three tries at that level he drops to a more comfortable class. Laterza trainee lands the rail against a suspect field and could be the one to catch. (3) BIG SIR drew off to win similar two back; Bartlett is back driving for Blackler. (4) YS DO IT RIGHT has hammered to below even-money last week but got rudely parked the mile; now he's intriguing at his 8/1 listed price.
