Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 4/3

Matt Rose|Mar 31, 2023
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2023 MEET STATS: 101 - 301 / $448.10 (-$153.90)

BEST BETS: 18 - 28 / $57.50 (+$1.50)

Best Bet: IDEALSOMEMAGIC A (9th)

Spot Play: PYRO (2nd)

Race 1: NW21999 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) FAMILY RECIPE drops to a softer spot after a long run facing better and from the pole position expect Holland to drive accordingly; gelding is the one to beat. (3) BB LUCKY BOY was aggressively handled at The Meadowlands in his first start off the bench as a 4-year-old and that didn't work out well. He then had two outside posts facing better here and never got involved. Pelling trainee finds a more manageable spot tonight and he'll be put in play. (6) QUALITY BUD gets to face a similar class after last week's dead-game victory though this seems like a tougher spot; sharp veteran still deserves consideration.

Race 2: Open Handicap Pace

(4) PYRO wanted to leave last week but ended up trailing in that five-horse affair and he was pretty much lost at the back in the slop. He finds a good spot tonight to start a new streak. (2) OZONE BLUE CHIP figures to be on the lead or in the pocket, as the speedster loves life up front. Hopefully he's sitting the trip behind Pyro. (3) PLEASELETMEKNOW is a talented 4-year-old and he's coming off two qualifiers but he still may need a couple of races to hit top form; he figures to save ground and will look to have late pace.

Race 3: MGM Borgata Pacing Series leg #3

(3) THIS IS THE PLAN was aggressively put into play last week as expected but he gave way without much of a fight when the winner came at him; classy Burke trainee finds an easier spot here and I haven't given up on him yet. (5) BACKSTREET SHADOW has maintained solid form this year after leaving the Burke Brigade and he's a must-use in here. (4) NANDOLO N didn't fire at all on the rim last week in a race dominated by the frontrunners; he's better than that.

Race 4: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(1) TOWNLINE ALL GOOD threw in a break last start while on the lead, and he does have a history of being a bit erratic at times. Assuming he minds his manners he should be heading down the road. (2) BALLARAT BOOMERANG has been good recently for multiple barns and without much early speed to his outside this race may be dominated by these top two choices. (3) THRASHER closed mildly off cover last week and he may be in grind mode tonight.

Race 5: MGM Borgata Pacing Series leg #3

(4) LOCHINVAR ART A stormed home off tiring cover last week to nail the leader at the wire and stay undefeated in this country. Team Tritton import draws into the weakest Borgata division and will be 1/9 looking for his sixth straight. (2) BELMONT ROYALE N rallied for small shares in the first two legs of the series and now gets some needed post relief; second best? (5) BEE TWO BEE is better than he's shown in his last two starts; drawing outside of the huge favorite doesn't help but maybe he can find a way into the triple.

Race 6: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(4) OURRHYTHMNBLUES N is on quite a roll for the DiDomenico barn and he'll be heading to the front again. Veteran may only have (1) SHERIFF N to hold off in the late stages. The latter was outfinished last start but overall he's been good since being claimed by the Lorentzon barn. (8) LOVE THE BLUES N was off almost a month but raced very well last week to narrow the gap into #4 late; he fits with these but needs a lot of luck from the outside post.

Race 7: MGM Borgata Pacing Series leg #3

(1) TATTOO ARTIST took all the money last week despite tiring in his first seasonal start and the millionaire delivered the goods with a solid rush to blow by a classy rival. Landing the rail tonight clearly makes him the one to beat again. (3) NONE BETTOR A was run over by the airborne Lochinvar Art A last week in a tough beat; speedster will be right in the mix again. (4) HELLABALOU was a clear second best from the pocket in leg #2 after winning his first prelim; Burke trainee is a legit contender but is at a tactical disadvantage being outside of the top two choices.

Race 8: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) PEACE OUT POSSE was scratched sick last week but he's right back in so I assume the Bongiorno trainee is good to go; I'll consider him at what should be a decent price in this competitive event. (2) ON THE CARDS N was good in his seasonal debut then wasn't a factor chasing better in his last three. Class and post relief certainly help the cause. (3) LOUIE THE HORSE N closed well last start to be second best and he seems capable of more improvement making his third seasonal start.

Race 9: MGM Borgata Pacing Series leg #3

(3) IDEALSOMEMAGIC A was in NW5000 not that long ago and he blew his way through the conditions and now is two-for-two in the Borgata. He was a winner every step of that mile last week and he's in a very good spot to take another. (7) JIMMY FRIEGHT needs some serious early speed to get into play tonight but if he gets a trip near the front he would be no surprise. (2) AMERICAN COURAGE had no chance to get involved last week but the now 5-year-old moves back inside and was a good second from a similar spot in his 2023 debut.

Race 10: NW10471 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) SPLASH BROTHER was much the best in his last two and the minor move up in class won't be a problem for this Schnittker trainee. Short price looming, however. (3) TIGER BARON got a long-awaited win last week and the veteran should be a big player again. (4) LUCIANO N has been utilizing his early speed recently to pick up shares and he may be forwardly placed again.

Race 11: NW30881 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) MIKE'S Z TAM faltered late in the mile last week but overall it's no surprise to see how live he's been in three starts since changing hands and joining the Burke barn. We know he's got plenty of local experience. (1) SONNY WEAVER N also returns locally and he's coming off a nice front-end score at Pocono; Bartlett picks up the drive. (4) SPEED MAN N was okay last start chasing a couple of sharp rivals. He would be my top pick had he drawn inside #1 and #3.

Race 12: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(5) JOJO'S PLACE was awful last week but he was claimed back (at a premium) by the Berkeley barn, and he jogged the start prior for those connections. Worth a shot as the second or third choice in here. (3) MACH DORO A pulled the pocket last week and went backwards; he drops right back to the level of the recent Engblom claim looking to improve. (2) SULLIVAN had no real chance first start for these connections but he gets needed post relief.
