Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 4/29

Matt Rose|Apr 26, 2024
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2024 MEET STATS: 102 - 331 / $559.10 (-$102.90)

BEST BETS: 17 - 28 / $62.30 (+$6.30)

BEST BET: SUMOMENTSOMWHERE A (6th)

SPOT PLAY: VENIER HANOVER (3rd)

Race 1: 3-6YO $30,000 Claiming Pace

(5) SURFSIDE BEACH has been knocking at the door with a series of solid efforts, including his last two where he finished in under :28. Bako trainee seems ready to breakthrough into the win column. (2) J B GRAM came up a bit short in his first start off the Engblom claim but it was an improved effort. (1) THAT DOG WILL HUNT was relegated to the back of the field last week and ended up never getting close; 4YO takes a significant drop in class from the $50K claimers to the $30's.

Race 2: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) ROCK DIAMONDS N woke up in a big way last week on the drop in class as the eight hole proved to be no problem. Step back up to the NW15000 level should not be an issue for this classy gelding. (4) JIMMY CONNOR B is forced to double-jump in class despite coming off a loss but he's been sharp and figures to be forwardly placed again. (1) SHADOW CAT had little to offer in his last start after pulling from third but he lands the rail again and does fit with these.

Race 3: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) VENIER HANOVER faces much better off that last win at the NW7500 level but this veteran has been known to get hot and string multiple big efforts together; worth a look in an open race. (2) SHINE A LIGHT was no match for the winner last week at odds-on and he may go favored again. (3) GROOVY JOE has just been okay recently but he figures to be right in the thick of the action tonight.

Race 4: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(5) SAILBOAT HANOVER had a tough trip last week but his prior efforts were live; he was reclaimed out of that race by the Laterza barn and Holland is back driving. (2) SAN DOMINO A also goes to a new barn via claim as Garcia-Herrera took the veteran from Burke. He's been just 'okay' recently but maybe perks back up for new connections. (7) REIGNING DEO is sharpest of these and is just two races removed from that 1:51 2/5 score but he's stuck outside and has never really shown a ton of gate speed.

Race 5: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(1) SWEET TROY went down the road last week at over 14/1 and actually won quite easily. Stafford trainee draws the rail again looking to repeat. (7) THRASHER has been solid no matter what barn he's been in and now he's back to Cammileri on the reclaim; can Kakaley move forward off the gate or will he be stuck too far back? (4) MY ULTIMATE STAR A goes for new connections now but he's been very consistent recently.

Race 6: Invitational Pace

(4) SUMOMENTSOMWHERE A raced well throughout the Borgata series and was second best in the consolation to the well-meant Venturesome Arden N. Burke trainee finds a good spot to return to winning ways. (1) ENERGETIC HANOVER was a solid second upon arrival and the Alagna trainee finished in :26 4/5. Bartlett picks up the drive tonight looking to build on that effort. (7) BOILING OAR has taken his game to new heights recently but he may have too much to do from his assigned outside post.

Race 7: 3-6YO $50,000 Claiming Pace

Not sure what to make of (1) POUND FOR POUND's insane win last week where he won by a football field in 1:51 4/5. A repeat of that effort will give him a second straight. (4) GDS THUNDER GB is tested for class off the barn change but he's got plenty of speed. (2) TWIN B DELUXE has been a major player at this level and is an obvious contender again.

Race 8: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) SPEED MAN N hasn't been at his best recently but the veteran faces softer and may have a clear path to the front. (7) ROCK THE BELLES drops for the fourth consecutive start and the Bongiorno trainee was a good second last start. (6) BLANK STARE may be at a bit of a tactical disadvantage from this post but he has talent and must be considered.

Race 9: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(6) DANCE ON THE BEACH drops back to the level of his last win and he's got the early speed to set up a winning trip. (1) ARTIST BEST missed by a head in each of his last two races and now he lands a cozy inside post; main danger. (2) PRETTY HANDSOME has been facing better in all recent with some limited success; drop and inside post make the veteran a clear contender.
