Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 3/11

Matt Rose|Mar 08, 2024
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2024 MEET STATS: 37 - 136 / $239.60 (-$32.40)

BEST BETS: 7 - 11 / $23.10 (+$1.10)

BEST BET: SEMI TOUGH (9th)

SPOT PLAY: ROCKNROLL RUNA A (9th)

Race 1: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(1) GINGER TREE PETE was a winner two back from the rail and managed to pick up a piece last week when relegated to last out of the eight hole. Move back inside makes him a major player again. (5) OAKWOODNITTOWNIT IR dropped in for a tag and the Bako trainee responded with an odds-on score. He's back in for the same price tonight (3) PINEBUSH LIFESAVER moves in a few slots on the gate and can close for a piece.

Race 2: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) BRAEVIEW BONDI A dropped to this level last week and put in a game effort to be second in a particularly fast time for this class. DiDomenico trainee seems ready to win. (4) CAPTIVATE HANOVER drops again in his third seasonal start after just missing last out. (5) JUDDY DOUGLAS A returns to Yonkers after a couple of tries at Pocono and he also drops while picking up Bartlett.

Race 3: NW30000 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) ADAM TWELVE showed a new dimension last start by laying off the pace and he charged home to just miss. Engblom trainee hasn't put in a bad effort in ages. (2) TAKE A GAMBLE surely needed a start after a long time on the bench and it looked like a perfect tightener. Now he's got a good post and Bartlett. (3) POINTOMYGRANSON figures to be on the move early again and should be right there at the finish.

Race 4: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) JUSTASEC N was a big winner out of the eight hole when dropped to NW5000 and he's classy enough where a bump to the next level shouldn't be a problem. (4) ON ACCIDENT gets some class relief and he's had some big moments here in the past. (1) BERAVED HANOVER takes a needed drop after not hitting the board in six 2024 starts but the rail draw and addition of Bartlett should make him a player.

Race 5: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(3) THRASHER went a tough trip as the overbet favorite in the $40K claiming series while back in the Camilleri barn. He had been very sharp prior to that so I expect him to bounce back here. (7) OZONE BLUE CHIP draws a lousy post again but does have the speed to get involved. If he can land somewhere near the lead he should land a nice piece. (1) RJ SPORTS IMAGE folded up in his first start off the Alexander claim and the speedy gelding is too inconsistent for my tastes.

Race 6: 3-6YO $50,000 Claiming Pace

(3) FULSOME gave way in the late stages last out but overall the Cameron Capone trainee has been great; another chance. (5) AS ALWAYS beat most of these last week but now he moves out from the rail to the five hole and faces an uncertain trip. (1) STONEBRIDGE REX just missed two back and won at this level four back. Versatile gelding moves all the way inside and Holland has options from this spot.

Race 7: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) ROCKNROLL RUNA A picks up the catch-driving Mark MacDonald as the Stalbaum trainee returns to Yonkers. This import won 5 of 15 here last year including in the Open and he can go from on or off the pace equally effectively. (1) SPEED MAN N doesn't win all that often but he always comes away with money. Veteran lands the rail and Stratton may be trying to seat everyone and go down the road. (4) GREG THE LEG just missed in his last two and he should be right there again.

Race 8: NW10271 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) SPORTY M THREE did the best he could from the seven hole in his local return and the post relief may prompt Gingras to get more aggressive with the Burke trainee. (5) LOU'S BEACH was a solid winner last out with Bartlett getting the drive but that was from the rail so he'll have to be even better tonight. (7) ALEX TYE has raced well in two starts off the John Grasso claim; veteran does get some class relief and we know he's got the early speed to get involved.

Race 9: Invitational - 1 assgn, 2-5 drawn Pace

Another five-horse affair to get the blood flowing...(4) SEMI TOUGH has been so sharp recently and couldn't ask for a better situation in his return to the Open/Invitational ranks. Post edge on #5 gives him a big tactical advantage. (5) NANDOLO N has come back strong this year and must be respected here, but he may be coming from last. (1) HEMSWORTH N steps back up to the top level and should carve out a share from his assigned post.

Race 10: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(3) IM A POWERPLAY A was a good second in his first start off the Adamczyk claim and his early speed could play a major role facing this competitive group. (7) GENTLEMANJIM II IE returns to Yonkers, where he's 0 for 17 the last two years but has been second eight of those times. Post is no bargain but he should be a good price from the outside and with the lesser-known Brett Beckwith driving. (1) AMERICAN ZEST A is another Stalbaum shipper from Saratoga who gets MacDonald to catch drive; he's facing better here but has won two straight.

Race 11: $30,000 Claiming Pace

Wide-open field here. (1) BALLERAT BOOMERANG takes a much-needed drop in class from the $40's to the $30's. That combined with the rail draw gives him a chance to turn things around. (4) LUCIANO N generally races as well as he draws, but the teenager used to have good tactical speed and it wouldn't surprise me if Holland took a shot at the lead. (6) FLOW WITH JOE debuts for the Choate barn off the claim and picks up Gingras.

Race 12: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) AMERICAN DEALER N returns to Yonkers off a nice win across the river and he looks to have a class edge on these. (2) GREAT SOMEWHERE picked up a strong win last start and has come back sharp for the Stafford barn; he too has plenty of class and should make his presence felt here. Ageless wonder (4) QUALITY BUD double-jumps to this level but he's been a player with this type for years. Wouldn't surprise me if he picked up a share at a price.
