Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 3/1

Matt Rose|Feb 26, 2021
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 54 - 159 / $298.50 (-$19.50)
BEST BETS: 10 - 16 / $34.70 (+$2.70)
Best Bet:
MIGHTY SANTANA N (8th)
Spot Play: GINGRAS BEACH (4th)

Race 1: $20,000 Claiming Pace

(3) CHACHING HANOVER was a longshot play last week but they cancelled; he's been showing improvement and lands in a similar spot tonight for a barn that has been going very well all season. (4) DRINKA BEER debuts for Brandon Todd off the claim and gets Bartlett in the bike; gelding should be on the move early. (1) FOX VALLEY NEMITZ (sharp at Meadowlands) and (6) GUNPOWDER N (sharp at Yonkers) are the other logical contenders.

Race 2: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) TALBOTCREEKWHISKEY took plenty of money last start despite having questionable form arriving from The Meadowlands and he put in a solid effort in defeat; he draws outside his main competition tonight but that should help his price. (2) GRATIAN HANOVER always gives 100% for Jenn Bongiorno and is a solid fit at this level. (3) BLOOD LINE returns locally, has some class to him and was Bartlett's choice.

Race 3: $25,000/$30,000 Claiming Handicap Pace

(5) PROVOCATIVEPRINCEN goes for another new barn off the claim after coming up flat from the pocket last out. Veteran import is most effective on the lead, so hopefully Kakaley will fire him to the top. (2) FOX VALLEY INFERNO also switches hands again and bumps up to face tougher but he's been razor-sharp. (3) MAGRITTE moves back into claimers looking for three in a row.

Race 4: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) GINGRAS BEACH was a strong pocket-sitting winner in his seasonal debut; Bucci-trained 4-year-old faces tougher here but may be up to the task. (1) OUR CORELLI N draws best for Stratton/Shane Tritton and certainly is logical but he's been coming up a bit short recently and won't offer much value on the win end. (7) RESPECT OUR FLAG took loads of money for Team Bongiorno upon arrival but never fired; he does drop in class but the trip is uncertain from this outside post.

Race 5: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) MAC’S JACKPOT clearly hasn't been firing on all cylinders of late but maybe he’s tightened a bit from that speed mission last out; classy veteran certainly fits with these. (3) THE REAL ONE is soooo frustrating for the gamblers and I can never guess right with him. With that said, he is a major contender here. (6) RAUKAPUKA RULER N is more than capable but he needs to show more in the late stages.

Race 6: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) TELLITSABB returns from Ohio where he's riding a two-race win streak facing middle-conditioned pacers and note this gelding went five for six here last season as a four-year-old. (4) LYONS KING moves in a few slots and figures to be more involved. (2) QUATRAIN BLUE CHIP gets tested for class as he moves up again looking for three straight and the Garcia-Herrera barn has been very live recently. (3) HUNDIE N is a steady check-earner.

Race 7: Open Handicap Pace

(6) LEONIDAS A looks ready to go off that qualifier and the Potomac winner was the pick last week before the cancellation; this may actually be a bit better spot than he was facing last Monday. (4) MOONSHINE KISSES flashed good speed in his last try and while he weakened a bit he did hold for a board spot; he could have a tactical edge on his main rivals from this spot. (5) CARLISIMO has quietly emerged as a legit upper-level player for Lance Hudson.

Race 8: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) MIGHTY SANTANA N returns locally off a nice win at Pocono and he raced very well in defeat facing NW10000 types back in January; Deters trainee clearly looks like the one to knock off. (3) KERFORD ROAD A seated everybody two back and went the distance, then saved ground and finished steadily last out; he loses Buter to the top choice but Marohn should have him in play. (5) YAYAS HOT SPOT N looks best of the rest from this spot.

Race 9: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) PYRO went a tough trip last out when hammered to the favorite but he still finished well; Garcia-Herrera trainee deserves another chance. (2) ARTIE'S IDEAL gets needed post relief and will most definitely be more involved; contender. (6) DON DOMINGO N has been good recently and could be a live longshot to use underneath.

Race 10: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) HUSDON PHIL returns locally from a stint over at The Big M where he was facing some solid competition and two back he was a nice second to Western Joe. He's proven to be a good fit with this type in the past. (2) SHERIFF N took all the money last out and was a well-meant winner in just his second U.S. start; obviously the import could have more to offer. (3) TOOKADIVEOFFDIPPER does have plenty of early speed if Lachance wants to try using it.
