Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 2/28

Matt Rose|Feb 25, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 47 - 170 / $223.10 (-$116.90)

BEST BETS: 6 - 16 / $22.40 (-$9.60)

Best Bet: JOJO'S PLACE (12th)

Spot Play: DESIRE'S CAPTAIN (4th)

Race 1: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) CONBOYVILLE has stayed close to the pace from inside posts in his last three and has managed to hit the board. He draws well again and the Devita barn has been hot. (1) RUNRUNJIMMYDUNN N was put in play last week from the outside facing $75K claimers and ran out of steam late; he's back at a more comfortable level tonight. (6) CAPTAIN FANCY has looked impressive in his last two beating up on NW8 but he faces more seasoned foes now.

Race 2: NW30000 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) SAVE ME A DANCE was denied the front or even the pocket last week and had to settle in an antsy third, then had no rally from there; he drops from the Open ranks and I'll give him one more try. (1) FUNATTHEBEACH N gets a free ride at this level off last week's very well-rated win. (4) IM SIR BLAKE A was at the back of the pack in the same race as #1 and could not pick up any ground in the quick last half; he'll be closer to the action tonight.

Race 3: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(2) BELTANE A figured to be a big player last week and held firmly for second after an uncovered trip. Tonight he has a post edge on that rival who beat him. (6) MACHIAVELLI went wire-to-wire to beat the top one and he goes for four straight overall; move outside may make things a bit more difficult. (4) ROBBIE BURNS N didn't get involved last week but he does have early speed in his arsenal.

Race 4: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(1) DESIRE'S CAPTAIN had very willing late pace last week and he finally gets post relief; expect an aggressive effort. (5) SHOREVIEW got hung to dry leaving from the eight hole in his debut for the Camilleri barn; Bartlett picks up the drive tonight. (2) IT'SGOODTOBEDAKING has been unable to replicate that win from four back but he does get much-needed post relief.

Race 5: NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace **$10K GTD Pick-5 Pool**

(1) BRACKLEY BEACH is back at Yonkers for Bongiorno after a failed try at Dover where he was stuck in the eight hole. He had been racing well with better when last seen here. (3) KERFORD ROAD A hasn't done much recently but he has generally been facing better and the Harmon trainee did carve out over $135K in earnings last year. (5) NVESTMENT BLUECHIP was third best to a couple of good ones last start; prior to that he was in a bit too tough; veteran should go better here.

Race 6: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(2) MARK WITHA K has shown solid early speed in every start since being claimed by these connections but has been unable to seal the deal. He drops in price tonight and should find these more to his liking. (1) MAJOR CROCKER A rallied well but too late last out and he should be tighter tonight racing back on consecutive weeks. (5) KINNDER JACKSON is entered below the level of the Dowse claim last month and Bartlett's back aboard.

Race 7: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) OUR MAX PHACTOR N was a solid second two back at the NW7500 level then never got involved when double-bumped in class; he drops back down a notch, lands an improved post and returns to Bartlett. (4) PAT STANLEY N had no chance last start but finished well for a small share; Jordan Stratton is back driving for his brother and obviously has a legit chance here. (8) TWIN B TUFFENUFF plunges in class but gets stuck in the worst post; Brennan needs to improve position at the start to have a chance.

Race 8: $75,000 Claiming Pace

(5) LYONS KING was a wire-to-wire winner last out for Team Bongiorno despite getting a little leg-weary at the end; he figures to be sent to the front again looking to double up. (1) VELOCITY KOMODO could not convert despite looming large in his debut off the Burke claim but it still was a good effort; he's an obvious contender here (and possible favorite). (2) PASSA GRILLE BEACH went Open Handicap-type fractions last week in NW5000 and was collared; he's back in for a tag and could pick up the pieces.

Race 9: $100,000 Claiming Pace

(2) JOESSTAR OF MIA A had missed some time prior to last week's start and was stuck in the eight hole; import gets major post relief and is likely the one to catch. (3) SAN DOMINO A hasn't been bad but hasn't been great in three starts after being taken by Burke for $100K; he is more than capable, however. (1) SOHO LENNON A successfully dropped and popped last out but his prior race from a similar spot he was a bit lacking late; use underneath.

Race 10: Open Handicap Pace

(6) LEONIDAS A took last week off after racing huge in his prior three 2022 starts; if he makes the top without too much trouble he'll be tough to catch. (4) DRAGON SAID was less than a length off at the finish in his first start since last October and he's clearly the main threat to the top one. (5) SPEED MAN N fired to the top and dug in to be last week's winner and he could be rolling early again.

Race 11: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(1) SOHO WALLSTREET A is clearly feeling good again and doesn't meet the strongest field of $40K claimers here; recent Burke claim should have the tactical edge. (8) SWEET N FAST N was worn down by the insane effort of I Get That last week; hopefully Stratton will be on the move early again. (6) CHANGE STRIDE N was a winner at this level last out utilizing a perfect trip.

Race 12: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(4) JOJO'S PLACE didn't fire at all last week but he was claimed again and now goes for Dowse with Bartlett picking up the drive; expect improvement. (3) MARTY MONKHOUSER A tailed off from the pocket and was a disappointing third last start but that was a quick mile; classy veteran can rebound with Stratton driving again. (1) PACING MAJOR N makes just his second start of the season but does drop in price and he draws best.
