Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 2/19

Matt Rose|Feb 16, 2024
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2024 MEET STATS: 28 - 89 / $187.60 (+$9.60)

BEST BETS: 5 - 8 / $16.40 (+$0.40)

BEST BET: ALL ALONE (12th)

SPOT PLAY: ALEX TYE (8th)

Race 1: NW6151 in last 5 starts Pace

(6) HE'S SPECIAL dropped to this lower conditioned level for his second start off the layoff and raced much better to be second best. Gelding was a 14-time winner last year and could be ready to step it up some more. (3) GAMBLINGTERROR drops in class and moves back inside for his third start off the holiday break and he will be more involved tonight. (4) CRUNCH TIME A raced well last week at odds-on for Bongiorno but could not threaten the sharp winner; big player with these and probable favorite.

Race 2: Stake Your Claim $40,000 Leg 2 Pace

(1) AUSSIE HANOVER qualified well for the returning Garcia-Herrera barn and he's in a spot to trip out in his seasonal debut. (5) DON DOMINGO N was reclaimed by the Devita barn and the 12YO was second best in last week's debut round of this series; he'll be heading towards the front again. (3) GOTHIC ROCK went an excusable tough trip in last; draws better and gets Bartlett on the catch drive.

Race 3: NW30051 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) COACHES CORNER hasn't gone a bad effort in months and was gaining on Covered Bridge missing a nose last out; Engblom trainee faces solid talent in here but I'll give him the call. (5) SEMI TOUGH has been geared up for early speed recently and it's been working out; veteran will probably be off the pace tonight, where he can succeed as well. (1) HEMSWORTH N steps back up a notch and Kakaley will likely be driving him aggressively from the rail.

Race 4: 3-6YO $50,000 Claiming Pace

(8) AS ALWAYS has been razor-sharp recently and he's protected by coming out of the Stake Your Claim series to enter this higher tag. Early speed looks good enough to overcome the eight hole. (4) WORLD FOR TWO was used hard and tired in debut for these connections; another chance. (2) TUFFENUFTOWEARPINK gets post relief after closing well in his last couple.

Race 5: NW15221 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) NIGHT HAWK rallied to be second best from a similar start in his first off the layoff and the gelding from the Burke stable can take the next logical step forward tonight. (2) KINGSVILLE steps back up while very sharp, and (1) BOILING OAR drops down while not so sharp; what's your preference?

Race 6: Stake Your Claim $40,000 Leg 2 Pace

(3) THRASHER has regained his best stride and now he goes for the Camilleri barn off last week's claim. If he maintains his good form for the new connections he'll win again. (1) URIEL BLUE CHIP lacks the class of others in here but has also been going well; move back to the rail helps. (4) OSTRO HANOVER finds a better spot than his last two and he pops up with big efforts from time to time.

Race 7: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(3) PAT STANLEY N popped first out for new connections so of course now I'm sucked back onto him hoping for a similar effort versus this well-matched field. I'll assume Joe B. is driving his trainee and not #4 who he is listed on...pay attention for an announced change. (2) ARTIST BEST gets much-needed post relief and he's a proven winner with this type when drawn inside. (1) MY ULTIMATE STAR A was claimed last start by the Adamczyk barn and did beat similar two back before being stuck outside.

Race 8: Stake Your Claim $40,000 Leg 2 Pace

(7) ALEX TYE draws outside again for round two of this claiming series and he didn't race badly last week. We've seen this veteran blast from the gate in the past and versus this suspect field maybe Bartlett is thinking the same thing. (1) MICKY GEE N got there gamely last week. Good luck if you try him to repeat as he's a frustrating one to bet. (5) HURRIKANEKINGJAMES could only manage third after hiking to this level; likely still sharp and can be considered.

Race 9: NW30221 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) ADAM TWELVE was a legit second his last two at the top levels to the same foe; drops back to a winning level here and I suspect Gingras will want him on the front. (1) FEARFUL INTENT was a winner right off the bench and looks like the main threat to the winner, but more likely to complete a chalk exacta. (4) CRANBOURNE N couldn't get near the front last week but had good late pace; may be a similar trip tonight.

Race 10: Stake Your Claim $40,000 Leg 2 Pace

(3) RJ SPORTS IMAGE stopped badly last week after being used early and now he drops back down to 40's while returning to Bartlett. He's fastest here and will be cutting the mile. (4) SAILBOAT HANOVER is back with Laterza off the reclaim after going sour in two starts with Bongiorno. (1) ALLUNEEDISFAITH N drops in for a tag, has some speed to protect position looking to trip out.

Race 11: Stake Your Claim $40,000 Leg 2 Pace

(4) JUST ENUFF STUFF has been solid since moving to the Bongiorno barn a few months back and he's a neck shy of a three-race win streak. He may offer a bit of value having drawn outside of #3 and seems versatile enough to handle any trip. (3) SAN DOMINO A finds a good spot to finally get it done after a long winless spell; short price. (2) PINEBUSH LIFESAVER gets a new driver in Brennan and maybe gets more involved.

Race 12: NW16271 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) ALL ALONE has a win and close third in his two 2024 Yonkers starts and the Engblom trainee draws better while returning to Bartlett. He very well may be 'all alone' at the wire as the finale chalk. (5) ADAM CROCKER A is rolling now and climbs the ladder again going for five straight; He'll be firing from the gate. (1) MACH N CHEESE has always been an inconsistent type so getting back-to-back winning efforts may be tough. Veteran can round out the tri.
