Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 10/23

Matt Rose|Oct 20, 2023
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MONDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2023

2023 MEET STATS: 414 - 1161 / $2,162.70 (-$159.30)

BEST BETS: 61 - 108 / $201.90 (-$14.10)

BEST BET: CERTIFIABLE (1st)

SPOT PLAY: LUCKBEWITHALEX (7th)

Race 1: 3-5YO $50,000/$75,000 Claiming Pace

It's safe to say that (7) CERTIFIABLE has found his comfort zone at this level as he goes for his fourth straight win. Clearly the outside handicap isn't slowing him down at all. (4) MY MIKI BEACH steps up considerably but he's been solid in his last few and does seem fast enough to compete with these. (3) TWIG rallied well for second last week and that's his sixth straight on-the-board finish.

Race 2: 3YO $30,000 Claiming Pace

(6) SHUFFLE UP HANOVER is another Engblom trainee with Bartlett driving and the outside post shouldn't present a major problem in this short field. (5) FISHERMANS SON invades from the Maritimes and qualified decently over at Pocono for his new connections. (4) SILK ROAD has really tailed off in his last few but he does land an improved post as he moves into claimers.

Race 3: NW33631 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) OAKWOODNITTOWNIT IR was second best to Leonidas A in that recent Open sprint and his early speed and manageable post gives this Bako trainee the call tonight. (1) SPORTY M THREE surged late to earn the nod last start and basically gets a free ride at this level as he meets the AE condition; Burke trainee looms large from the rail. (4) WHATS STANLEY GOT A has raced well in every start since arriving in the U.S. and he was a winner when last at this level; Jordan Stratton is back driving for his brother.

Race 4: 3-5YO $50,000 Claiming Pace

(2) TOPVILLE SOMROCKET gets needed post relief and almost certainly will be going a better trip than he's seen in his last couple. (6) SETH HANOVER is a consistent sort and has flashed early speed on occasion. (1) TWO FACED finished decently for a share in his local return and should work out a nice journey starting from the rail.

Race 5: NW20000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) OZONE BLUE CHIP gets some much-needed class relief and also a better post to work with; veteran hasn't been far off in any of his recent starts but he just hasn't made an impact. That could change tonight at a decent mutuel. (5) MOONSHINE KISSES got well in a hurry up at Saratoga and he's the one to beat. (1) ROCK DIAMONDS N also drops back down a notch and will be sitting close up, likely in the pocket; Bongiorno trainee can land a share.

Race 6: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(1) SHERIFF N finally gets some post relief as he moves inside and finds himself in a controlling spot. (3) ARRHYTHMIC SURGE is always capable but as an off-the-pace type usually needs some help along the way. He can power home again if within range late. (2) REAL PEACE also gets major post relief as he offered nothing in his last three from outside spots; Engblom/Bartlett always deserves respect.

Race 7: NW15951 in last 5 starts Pace

(2) LUCKBEWITHALEX was a 1:51 4/5 winner two back then had zero chance last week from the eight hole. Lance Hudson trainee moves back inside and should be in line for a good trip as the second or third choice. (3) JACK'S LEGEND N is back at Yonkers off a game try at Pocono and he's been facing better lately. Last time at this level he scored at odds-on. (4) JAHAN HANOVER has come up just shy in his last three; sharp sort needs to be considered.

Race 8: NW30000 in last 5 starts Pace

I'm willing to just toss (4) THIS IS THE PLAN's last race as he was lost in that 9/16's sprint. He's overloaded with class and I'm hopeful the triple millionaire can still bring it. (1) HICKFROMFRENCHLICK is logical selecting with speed from the rail. (2) KARLOO BRADLEY N has just one win in five tries since arriving from Down Under but he's been close in every start and he should be right there again.

Race 9: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(2) WICHITA LINEMAN was sent off favored in his first start off the Engblom claim but he never threatened despite finishing in :27 1/5. He's back in for a tag and from a much better post, where he should be able to reach. (7) DEETZY had won five in a row at this level, all on the front end, before coming up just shy last week, and was claimed out of the race. Holland drives now and he knows how to get one off the gate, so the outside post shouldn't be that much of a handicap. (3) ROCKIN JUKEBOX goes for three straight and faces similar; obvious contender.
