Yonkers: Analysis for Monday 10/11

Matt Rose|Oct 08, 2021
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 344 - 1004 / $1,845.00 (-$163.00)

BEST BETS: 46 - 94 / $145.40 (-$42.60)

Best Bet: SIMPLE KINDA MAN (11th)

Spot Play: KEYSTONE STEAM (1st)

Race 1: $30,000 Claiming Pace

(3) KEYSTONE STEAM finished mildly after a ground-saving trip upon arrival to Yonkers. He draws well enough in this evenly-matched field and perhaps will be driven more aggressively at what should be a fair price. (1) ALOTBETTOR N rallied well from off cover to be second best to the pacesetting (5) MY DELIGHT coming out of the same race as the top choice and he should go well from the rail. The latter took advantage of the pole position to win at 6/1; he's been a steady performer for these connections since the claim a couple of months back.

Race 2: Preferred Handicap Pace

(2) SHADOW CAT was a pretty good second last week cutting a quick clip before getting run over by Splash Brother. He generously gets to draw for an inside post off that effort and should loom a big player. (7) TWIN B TUFFENUFF was aggressively put in play from the outside post last week in his local return and almost lasted to the wire. Will we see similar tactics tonight? (3) GINGRAS BEACH gets tested for class but he puts up big efforts occasionally, like last week's front-end tally.

Race 3: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(2) MAJOR CROCKER A was very game in defeat upon hiking to this level off the Cory Stratton; Veteran deserves top billing here off that effort. (1) TREASURE MACH was part of the pace battle with the top one last week, his first start for the Jenn Bongiorno barn. He draws the rail again which will make him tough. (6) OZONE BLUE CHIP debuts for DiDomenico off the claim and he's done well in all recent starts, and at good prices too.

Race 4: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(4) TIGERS WAY didn't show much in his first start off the Godinez claim but he was stuck in the eight hole in a paceless race. Gelding finds a more realistic spot here and should be a decent price in this field with no standouts. (5) VELOCITY KOMODO shows a recent win at this level, which is more than most of these can say. (2) BOURBONS COURAGE was racing pretty well in the age-restricted claimer and his new connections elected to bump him up; sign of confidence?

Race 5: $50,000 Claiming Pace

(3) BARBADOS has been a solid off-the-pace player since arriving at Yonkers some time back and he shouldn't have too far to come for his new connections. (4) CHANGE STRIDE N has been razor-sharp at the $40K level for a number of different barns, and he steps up now off the Bako claim. This barn has been on fire since arriving on the scene. (1) DREAMFAIR CHARRO certainly has been holding his own recently, though he loses Kakaley tonight to #4.

Race 6: $75,000 Claiming Pace

(2) SOHO LEVIATHAN A was gunned down by a sharp rival last out after cutting a decent pace; he lands inside again and should get another crack at taking these the distance. (5) UPTOWN FUNK has been a big success story this year, banking almost $118K already after not earning a penny in 2020; he's reunited with Buter. (7) AINTNOBETTOR A has three good efforts at this level albeit from inside posts; does he have the early speed to get into play? Price should be right if you think so.

Race 7: Open Handicap Pace

(4) NONE BETTOR A was the Quillen winner at Harrington and he followed that up with a game second-place outing here at the top level; Harris trainee lands a decent post in this mostly open draw and he figures to be on the move early. (6) SHOOBIE DOO A gets Brennan tonight in his local return and we know he can go with these. (3) DRAGON SAID took a couple of weeks off after a rare poor performance. We've surprisingly seen a few sub-par efforts from this barn recently.

Race 8: NW10000 in last 5 Pace

(3) BLANK STARE has raced well in his last couple out of town without a win to show for it; 4-year-old has been good here versus better recently and he returns into a live spot with Bartlett picking up the drive for Cullipher. I suspect he'll be a bit of an underlay, however. (1) FINE DIAMOND won easily last week and he begins his ascent back up the class latter. (2) PATRIOT NATION is just 1 for 22 on the season but he always grabs a share.

Race 9: NW30000 in last 5 Pace

(1) SOUTHWIND OZZI is creeping towards the $1 million career mark and though he kind of got lost at the back of the pack in last week's Preferred; this is a much better spot for him to do some damage. (3) SUGARTOWN wired $75K claimers last week and he fits neatly at this NW condition; he can show early speed again from this spot. (4) HICKFROMFRENCHLICK suffered a tough defeat last week and though he bumps up off that loss he still may be best of the rest.

Race 10: $100,000 Claiming Pace

Five-horse field here going for $42K. (2) JOESSTAR OF MIA A debuted for the Dowse barn last week and suffered a narrow loss at the hands of Weona Sizzler A. Bartlett drives again from this improved post and he's got options. (1) FRANCO TOTEM N comes up tagged now after wiring a Preferred field; does Holland seat everyone again from the rail? It's possible. (5) WEONA SIZZLER A has totally turned things around since moving to the Gillis barn; clearly he's a player again despite being on the outside.

Race 11: NW15000 in last 5 Pace

(1) SIMPLE KINDA MAN returns from his home base at Saratoga and note a couple of months ago he wired a better field than he meets here. (4) SOHO LENNON A hasn't won yet in five starts since coming back from a break but this classy veteran has had some good efforts; he should be forwardly placed looking for a stalking trip. (3) SILAS SEELSTER is just 1 for 25 on the season but he hits the board enough to pay his way and he can round out the exotics here as well.

Race 12: NW15000 in last 5 Pace

(1) J B MAUNEY N has shown live efforts in his three local races, all from tough outside posts. He faces somewhat better here but finally from a good inside post. (4) SHNEONUCRZYDIAMND A makes his second start at this reduced level and he'll make his presence felt here. (2) LIFEONTHEBEACH A was a sharp winner last week at the NW10000 level and he lands in another live spot tonight.
