Yonkers: Analysis for Friday 9/3

Matt Rose|Sep 01, 2021
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 297 - 843 / $1,604.10 (-$81.90)

BEST BETS: 41 - 80 / $130.40 (-$29.60)

Best Bet: IT'S ACADEMIC (7th)

Spot Play: TULLOW N (12th)

Race 1: $12,500 Claiming Pace

(3) BEGINNER’S LUCK has overall had a pretty good season but he has been tailing off a bit so his connections dropped him to the lowest claiming level and he responded with a solid second; he lands a similar spot tonight and should be able to handle these. (4) AMRCANBOOTSSCOOTA A comes out of the same race as the top one and he held well for third after a long trip; that was his first start for a new listed trainer and perhaps he can improve even more tonight. (8) ARCANE SEELSTER moves to the hot Milici barn and picks up Kakaley; he'll be a big price due to the outside post but maybe he can find a way to pick up a share.

Race 2: NW15400 in last 5 Trot

(6) WINDSONG PIONEER had no realistic chance last week and while he lands outside again he seems to face a more questionable field; he's got the early speed if Holland elects to use it and should be a juicy price. (2) NO DRAMA PLEASE chased the runaway winner last start and was second best; prior to that he had taken two straight at lower levels down at Philly. (1) KANDY SWEET had no excuse from the pocket last week but the mare seems better than that.

Race 3: $12,500 Claiming Pace

(1) MACHING TIME managed to pick up minor awards from outside posts in his two starts off the Izzy Estrada claim; gelding moves all the way inside and should be ready for a more aggressive effort. (6) TASTE OF HISTORY was an even third last week in a needed start coming off the bench. (5) OFFICIAL DELIGHT is 0 for 24 and counting this year and he's in for $12,500 despite being claimed for $15K last week; be careful with him as the ML favorite.

Race 4: $15,000 Claiming Pace

(1) ROCKABILLY CHARM was used hard last out, his first start off the Dowse claim; gelding lands the rail in this very soft $15K claimer and could work out a winning trip. (4) GYPSY LEATHER rated a comfortable pace last week but still gave way early stretch; he goes back to the Adamczyk barn and his good early speed always makes him a contender. (3) MILITARY MASTER A came up empty off cover last week facing better but he had been racing well in prior starts.

Race 5: NW20000 in last 5 starts Trot

(2) TAD CRAZY HANOVER was a game second last week grinding into a quick back half and she can take this with a little trip luck. (4) BARRY BLACK hasn't been bad but hasn't been great recently and he always comes away with money; drop in class will surely help his cause. (3) HIGH GEAR NO FEAR was a pocket-sitting second best last start to a good winner; barn has been very live here.

Race 6: $20,000 Claiming Pace

(4) ROCK N BLUE sat patiently in the pocket last week as the 1/5 favorite then drew off with ease when tipped out for clearance; Jenn Bongiorno trainee is up again in class looking to take his third straight. (2) DISMISSAL SLIP goes for Adamczyk now off the claim; he should be able to step around the rail horse then yield and sit a trip. (5) PLAY THE FIELD was shuffled back last start so don't hold that against him; he now goes for Devita and is another with good early foot.

Race 7: Open Handicap Trot

Trainer Ron Burke does a great job shuffling around his 1,000 horses and finding good spots for them. This seems to be the case with (4) IT'S ACADEMIC, who seems to currently have a clear class edge over these and he wins the "4 through 8" draw. (3) GUARDIAN ANGEL AS has looked pretty good since returning from a layoff and he has loads of back class. (5) MISSISSIPPI STORM had a tough go of it in the Invitational at Pocono but he has a great local record this year.

Race 8: 3&4YO $30,000 Claiming Pace

(8) SAILBOAT HANOVER didn't look that great starting last week but he ended up putting in a monster effort before getting nailed on the wire. Eight hole is tough but if Brennan can somehow get him away in good order he can beat these. (1) KEYSTONE DASH made an ill-fated brush attempt into the big favorite last start; a different trip should yield better results. (3) AQUAMAN HANOVER had a no-chance trip last week and ended up losing touch; this is a much better spot tonight.

Race 9: NW30000 in last 5 starts Trot

(1) IT AINT THE WHISKEY has had a pretty good season and now he moves to the Jenn Bongiorno barn; will he be even better now? Probably. Kakaley gets the catch-drive. (3) AFTER ALL PAUL figures to me much more involved tonight with the improved post. (6) BULLY BOY will be overlooked in the wagering but the versatile trotter could hit the ticket with a smooth trip.

Race 10: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) ZINNY MACH N has really turned things around since moving to this barn; he ships in from Philly and doesn't face the strongest field so maybe the sharp sort could make some noise here at a price. (4) BELTANE A was second best at odds-on last week to a rival that's now stuck in post eight; Lance Hudson trainee rates highly here. (1) ALEPPO HANOVER has just one win over the past two seasons so he's tough to endorse on top as the 3/1 ML favorite.

Race 11: NW15000 in last 5 starts Trot

(1) PAPPY GO GO had a tough trip last week as a stale rival pulled in his face down the backside but he finished with plenty of trot; if catch-driver Merton can navigate him cleanly he can win this. (5) MADHATTER BLUECHIP is up in class again off two vicious front-end victories. (2) ROCK OF CASHEL was gaining fast on the winner last out and ended up second best; classy 11-year-old is an obvious player.

Race 12: NW5200 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) TULLOW N missed a head to a rival with back class the last time he was in this low; winner of over $63K this year and $400K lifetime will hopefully be aggressively handled by Holland. (1) TOWNLINE ALL GOOD was jammed in the pocket with nowhere to go before breaking last week and now he gets to drop again and also lands the rail again. Connections claimed this guy for $50K five starts back and they haven't earned a penny with him yet…yikes! (6) ARCHANGEL THREE returns locally off a solid score at Freehold coming off the bench.
