Yonkers: Analysis for Friday 9/10

Derick Giwner|Sep 08, 2021
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 24-9-3-5 / $30.40 (-$17.60)

BEST BETS: 2-2-0-0 / $6.10 (+2.10)

SPOT PLAYS: 2-2-0-0 / $6.60 (+$2.60)

BEST BET: COOL PAPA BELL (3RD)

SPOT PLAY: MONI FOR LINDY (6TH)

Race 1: Non-winners $20,000 in last 5 or 10 races life/Opt. $20,000 Clm. - Pick 4

Playing horses from post 8 at Yonkers is far from a recipe for success, but (8) MOSTINTERESTINGMAN is the fastest horse on a half-mile track and far and away the class of the field. Buter seems likely to fire off the wings and have a reasonable chance of wiring the field. (1) HIGH GEAR NO FEAR has the inside advantage and plenty of early speed to guarantee he comes away close. (5) IT AINT THE WHISKY didn't fire on his first try for the new high-percentage barn but does get to drop a class tonight.

Race 2: NY Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Trot Final

(2) VALENTINA BLU showed heart winning here two starts back and finished well last time. McCarthy will likely watch in the opening quarter as a few others head to the front but she seems to have the chops to grind out a first-over win. (1) GERTRUDE will be firing hard from the gate, though we really haven't seen freaky early speed from her yet. Either way, she’ll be close to the action and the likely favorite. (6) BOMB HUGGER broke leaving last time but proved to be fast off the gate previously. If he makes the front without issue, watch out! (8) JOVIALITY S probably needs some help in the form of a couple of breakers to ensure she's close enough to the front to have a shot. If she gets that luck, her chances improve greatly.

Race 3: NY Sire Stakes 2YO Colt Trot Final - Pick 6

(5) COOL PAPA BELL finished with plenty left last week when winning clearly wasn't the main objective. He's been handled somewhat conservatively in his small-track starts but the gloves seem likely to come off here. (2) MOLOTOV COCKTAIL will likely get looped by #3 as he leaves the gate but he's already proven he can handle the turn wide and should eventually make the top; big shot here. (4) JUSTICE is perfect but has hardly proven he's faster than these on the half. If #5 wanted to beat him last week I believe that would've been the result.

Race 4: NY Sire Stakes 2YO Colt Pace Final

(2) PLEASELETMEKNOW was clearly a bit short last time after missing more than four weeks of action. American Ideal gelding has been very reliable and the inside post gives driver Matt Kakaley options. (1) FLIP MY CHIP has been a model of consistency in this series and even found a way to pick up a pair of wins. He’s not the flashiest but is very capable of working out a good trip from pylon position. (3) STRETCH THE LINE is the most dynamic in terms of talent when he decides to mind his manners. He rolled off stride last time out for no apparent reason and has now made breaks twice on this track. (5) JD is probably not as quick away from the gate as his lines look but he looks like a lock to try for the front.

Race 5: NY Sire Stakes 2YO Filly Pace Final - Pick 5

(4) JUST DIVINE lost her winning streak last time by only a neck but remains perfect on half-mile tracks. She gets a slight edge here over (2) JOYRIDE HANOVER, who should be heading to the front and set a track record at Monticello three back, and (3) GOTTHEGREENLIGHT, who has only one career loss but could be looking at a first-over trip in this spot unless Dunn works some magic.

Race 6: NY Sire Stakes 3YO Filly Trot Final

(1) MONI FOR LINDY, a three-time winner in the Sire Stakes this year, gets a huge advantage drawing post 1 and should be firing away to control the action. (3) SPLASH BLUE CHIP adds Lasix for this start. Driver Ake Svanstedt could try to fire out here. (4) CONTESTED HANOVER remains winless on the year but is much better than that record indicates. His chances will come down to trip.

Race 7: NY Sire Stakes 3YO Filly Pace Final - Pick 4

(5) TEST OF FAITH, possibly the best 3-year-old filly pacer in North America, has proven on a number of occasions that she is simply better than this group. (3) DELIGHTFUL Z TAM might not be the most talented filly, but she's in good form and can take advantage of a ground-saving trip as some of the others vie for the early lead. (6) HEART OF MINE already has four wins in this series and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Zeron try to loop #5 to get a pocket trip.

Race 8: NY Sire Stakes 3YO Colt Trot Final

(6) AHUNDREDDOLLARBILL owns three track records on half-mile tracks this year. The post isn't ideal, but a quick brush to the front approaching the quarter seems likely. (3) DEWEY ARNOLD should be firing hard to the front and it will be interesting to see if Bartlett tries to force likely fellow leaver (4) AMBASSADOR HANOVER into a hole. If he gets away no worse than second and the top pick falters, he could pull off the minor upset. The latter comes off a pair of subpar efforts but was racing well previously. (7) BALENCIAGA has the talent but was done no favors by the draw.

Race 9: NY Sire Stakes 3YO Colt Pace Final

(1) SOUTHWIND PETYR seems likely to find early speed this week from the cones. While he's been a bridesmaid way too often this year, perhaps new driver Dexter Dunn can wake him up late. (4) TOWN GOSSIP has been first or second in every NYSS leg and won't go down without a fight. (6) NATAMERI has already defeated #4 twice this year and he'll offer a much better price.

Race 10: Open Handicap Trot

(4) MAGICAL JOURNEY got to draw for inside posts this week and is almost certain to take a shot for the front and sit no worse than second. (6) IT'S ACADEMIC is another likely leaver and the one who should be cutting the fractions; dangerous if he somehow gets there easily. (7) GUARDIAN ANGEL AS worked out a perfect trip in victory last time. He's going to need plenty of pace help to find the winner's circle this week.
