Yonkers: Analysis for Friday 6/24

Matt Rose|Jun 22, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 209 - 646 / $1,066.90 (-$225.10)

BEST BETS: 33 - 59 / $136.30 (+$18.30)

Best Bet: STREET GOSSIP (6th)

Spot Play: CAROLINA MAGIC (4th)

Race 1: $15,000 Claiming Pace

(3) CARRACCI HANOVER put in a solid front-end effort first off the DiDomenico claim and the freelegged veteran faces a soft field of $15K types here with no visible excuse to fail. (1) GYPSY LEATHER has seen better days but he should still have enough juice left to sit the trip to the top one and hold for a share. (4) MCARTER was overmatched in his first try here coming from Northfield but he faces softer tonight.

Race 2: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

This race looks like it will be dominated by the three inside class-droppers. (3) CHANGE STRIDE N plunges from the $75K claiming level and he's already banked almost six figures this season. (1) GENIUS MAN was in the Open not too long ago and he's got controlling speed from the rail. (2) AINTNOBETTOR A gets needed post relief.

Race 3: NW15000 in last 5 starts Trot

(4) ZIG ZAG was a nice winner two back then never got close last week in a race with no flow. In a race with no standouts he could be close enough to reach and will offer a good price. (1) BELIEVER faces a bit better going for three straight and is clearly sharpest in here. (3) ARMAGEDON SEELSTER returned locally last week and was not all that far off at the $50K claiming level; he should find these more to his liking.

Race 4: $20,000 Claiming Pace

(1) CAROLINA MAGIC hasn't shown much this season but his last race was an improved effort and he was claimed by owner Milici, who had success with this gelding in the past when he was listed as trainer. He's missed a couple of weeks but does land the best post and picks up Bartlett. (3) RISKY MILLION returns from Pennsylvania and is reunited with Siegelman, who had some success with him in a couple of starts last month. (5) SPORTS BETTOR was second best last week after following live cover. That was his best effort since being claimed for $25K by the DiDomenico barn.

Race 5: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(3) SEAFARER tired pretty badly in the front end in his last two but prior to that was a series of solid off-the-pace efforts; Jenn Bongiorno trainee could revert to a stalking mode which may help his cause. (5) MARINER SEELSTER saw his winning streak halted last out but he still remains a solid threat with these. (1) ODDS ON DELRAY is back from Ohio and without much current form, save for a couple of second-place finishes facing lower-conditioned types. Maybe the change in venue and the addition of Bartlett helps his cause.

Race 6: NW30000 in last 5 starts Trot

(2) STREET GOSSIP has had moderate success recently with much better than he faces tonight and the four-year-old can have his way with these. (1) NEW HEAVEN draws best and can never be counted out; he seems like the main threat to the top one and a strong candidate to complete a chalky exacta. (8) B NICKING is very sharp now but must contend with the eight hole.

Race 7: MGM Grand Messenger Stakes Elimination 3YO C&G Pace

(3) GULF SHORES passed his first test of his three-year-old season when he easily won an OHSS event at Northfield and the Brian Brown trainee is clearly the most accomplished of these. He won't offer any value but should get the job done. (4) LAYTON HANOVER has come back sharp in his sophomore season and has already doubled his 2YO earnings in half the starts. It's unfortunate that he draws outside the top one but he should come away with a big piece of this. (6) PJ LOU gets Bartlett in the bike for his local return and it wouldn't surprise me if he tried to blast from the gate.

Race 8: MGM Yonkers Trot Elimination 3YO Open Trot

(5) JOVIALITY S will look to be the first filly to win the Yonkers Trot in 25 years and if her first three races of the season are any indication, the Melander trainee will accomplish that mission with ease (and as a heavy favorite). (3) BRAVE BY DESIGN was the Dexter Cup winner so obviously the half-mile doesn't seem to be an issue; Jenn Bongiorno trainee recently added Lasix and jogged in an overnight event at Philly. (1) KOSHER MAHONEY makes his third start since joining the Burke Brigade and should sit a good trip assuming he survives the tricky first turn.

Race 9: MGM Grand Messenger Stakes Elimination 3YO C&G Pace

(3) HAMMERING HANK was 8 for 11 as a two-year-old, including a win in the Kindergarten final and a close finish in the Breeders Crown. Brett Pelling trainee was a fast-closing third in his seasonal debut and lands in a perfect spot here making his half-mile debut. (4) PLEASELETMEKNOW has had plenty of success on the NYSS circuit and was an easy winner here four back in an overnight event. (5) MARKET BASED is Nancy Takter's lone entrant in the Triple Crown events and the connections were confident enough to give him a try in the NA Cup at Mohawk Park. Colt tasted success three back when Andrew McCarthy drove.

Race 10: MGM Yonkers Trot Elimination 3YO Open Trot

(4) JUSTICE was collared in his 3YO debut in the Dexter Cup but has since reeled off two straight solid wins, including last week in the EBC at Vernon. Svanstedt trainee figures to head to the front and will be tough to deny. (3) DOUBLE DECEIVER was a Breeders Crown finalist as a two-year-old and overall had a solid freshman season. Trotter has gotten progressively better starting out this season's campaign, including a win last week in a PA Sire Stakes event. (1) ROBERTSIN gave the Yonkers oval a try last start and passed that test with a win out of the eight hole. Tonight he starts from the rail and if safely away he can track the top ones for a share and make the final.

Race 11: NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) GIVENUPDREAMING has not been the most prolific winner over the last couple of seasons but he had been facing much better in most of those starts and would seem to have little excuse to fail here. (3) EPIC ACE also drops, draws decently and should be more involved than he has been recently. (6) REMEMBER THE BEACH makes another start at this reduced level and must be respected from these connections.
