Yonkers: Analysis for Friday 5/13

Matt Rose|May 11, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 168 - 523 / $859.00 (-$187.00)

BEST BETS: 28 - 48 / $121.30 (+$25.30)

Best Bet: STORMY KROMER (10th)

Spot Play: BOURBONS COURAGE (1st)

Race 1: $15,000 Claiming Pace

(8) BOURBONS COURAGE had an easy time of it last week versus similar and I don't see the eight hole being a serious problem for this Dowse trainee. (3) KINGSTONS BAD BOY was a winner two back at this level and should be relatively close to the pace throughout. (2) ASTON HILL DAVE wasn't bad last week at a big price and the veteran is a candidate to hit the ticket.

Race 2: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) AINTNOBETTOR A hasn't been all that sharp recently but has been facing much better than he sees here; he was a winner back in March at this level. (2) YAYAS HOT SPOT N did show improvement when dropped in class for his last start but he still came up short at the end. Shane Tritton-trained veteran always seems capable but has just two wins over the last two seasons; use caution. (5) MAJESTIC KIWI N is one of the few Gillis trainees that hasn't been functioning but he does drop from $30K claimers and he picks up Stratton.

Race 3: NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) FLYING FINN N returns locally into a field with plenty of question marks and he gets Kakaley in the bike; gelding has shown good early speed on occasion and figures to be forwardly placed from this spot. (4) THE DOWNTOWN BUS has been a major underachiever with just one win over the last two years but he must be considered a threat at this bottom level; he's another Gillis trainee getting Stratton back in the bike. (1) SKIP TO MY LOU has really hit the skids after leaving the Chindano barn, where he was performing at a high level. Maybe he lands a share with a smooth trip.

Race 4: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(2) BLACK CHEVRON N has been going much better of late and seems to have found a home at this level; good draw makes this veteran a legit contender again. (4) MARINER SEELSTER had been knocking on the door for some time and finally came through with a big win last start; he bumps back up a notch here for sharp connections. (6) SEAFARER was a solid second out of the eight hole last week and Buter catch-drives the Jenn Bongiorno trainee again; player.

Race 5: NW15000 in last 5 starts Trot

(4) SWANSEA hasn't been finishing his miles recently but he tries Bartlett tonight (with regular driver Brennan sticking with Burke) and maybe the fresh set of hands can help his cause. (2) LIFETIME ROYALTY used a close-up trip to just miss at a big price last out and he lands in a similar spot here. (7) STEUBEN HANOVER drops from the $75K claiming level, where he finished third in his last two tries, and he should go well with these. Only drawback is the poor post, but that helps the price.

Race 6: NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) SECRECY was invisible at 99/1 last week in the Pop-Up series but the Stafford trainee has a couple of recent third-place finishes at this level and he meets a pretty formless field here. (4) BENSON BOYS N hasn't earned one penny since being claimed for $25K back in February. He arrives from Pocono with a new trainer listed and maybe the venue change helps his cause. (5) CINNAMACK gets a new driver tonight in Bartlett and he seems better than his 0 for 14 would indicate.

Race 7: NW21851 in last 5 starts Trot

(1) LEAN HANOVER should be favored and should take this field down the road, but to use the old saying, I'm not betting the rent money here. (4) ON HIGHER GROUND shifts from claimers to this event and the Bongiorno trainee gets Bartlett looking to show some improvement. (5) GHOSTINTHESHELL S arrives for Svanstedt, who has a solid record here in overnights especially with Dube driving, but she broke in her lone appearance here last year.

Race 8: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(1) HAPPY TRIO has turned things around since the Dowse claim and is routine selecting at odds-on. (4) AMERICAN BOY N had missed some time prior to last week's start and he raced evenly; he's loaded with back class and looks like the main threat to the top one. (5) MISSILE SEELSTER goes for Cory Stratton now off another claim and he bumps in class despite coming off a tiring effort; interesting.

Race 9: $20,000 Claiming Pace

(6) BLUEBIRD RECON returned locally from Ohio last week, joined the Dowse barn, was sent to the lead but stopped. Veteran has had success here in the past so I'll give him another try, especially getting Bartlett to drive. (1) SAFETY SECOND appeared hard to handle last week and ultimately tired after Marohn pulled the pocket. With a smoother journey he can be a big player. (4) GOTHIC ROCK arrives from Freehold off a win and gets a big driver change to Stratton.

Race 10: Open Handicap Trot

(2) STORMY KROMER is 4 for 8 on the season, with three of those wins at the Open level. Stafford trainee lands a generous inside post despite winning his last two by open lengths. (5) MISSISSIPPI STORM returns locally off a needed race last week at The Meadowlands and the Fanning trainee has a solid record here over the last few years. (4) STREET GOSSIP was third best to the top one after an easy trip last start and the 4-year-old can land another share tonight.

Race 11: $12,500 Claiming Pace

(7) LETTUCERIPRITA A could not reach last week from the eight hole, the first time he wasn't right in the thick of the action in some time. Connections now plunge him in class to the $12,500 level with liitle fear of losing him, and I suspect he'll be good to go. (4) PEPPER GUY returns locally and goes from Dowse driving himself to Bartlett. Obvious contender. (2) TIGERS WAY also drops to the basement looking to awaken.
