Yonkers: Analysis for Friday 5/10

Matt Rose|May 08, 2024
Yonkers Logo 1.5

2024 MEET STATS: 134 - 445 / $732.30 (-$157.70)

BEST BETS: 20 - 38 / $72.40 (-$3.60)

BEST BET: FOR A DREAMER (3rd)

SPOT PLAY: CASSIUS HANOVER (1st)

Race 1: NW16751 in last 5 starts Trot

(2) CASSIUS HANOVER is just 1 for 9 on the season but has hit the board on 8 of those 9 races. After a decent showing in the John Brennan series the Lachance trainee faces some more seasoned foes, but he lands a good post to sit up close and make one late run. (4) WARRIOR ONE got the job done last week on the dropdown and he's got plenty of back class to call upon. (6) PC FREE WHEELING was second best last start in a quick time and she gets to face similar.

Race 2: F&M NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) SWEET ALI LOU deserves another chance after last week's rough trip in her local debut; Engblom trainee has Bartlett driving again. (1) SUPER GIRL comes over from The Meadowlands where she's been decent in five seasonal tries and the Harder trainee figures to be a good fit at this bottom level. (3) WOODMERE HARRIET was facing better when we last saw her at Yonkers.

Race 3: NW6656 in last 5 starts Trot

(3) FOR A DREAMER got the class and post relief he was craving last week and was sent off at odds-on but proved no match for the winner who blazed around the oval. Versus this field this veteran should get it done. (1) WILY WALLY has speed and the rail for live connections and looks second best. (4) QUIKSILVR BLUECHIP was third best to the top one last week, figures as high again.

Race 4: NW11311 in last 5 starts Trot

(1) HOOLIE N HECTOR was outbattled last week by the classy Warrior One so there's no shame in that; Laterza trainee lands inside again looking to get off the seasonal schneid. (4) THE LAST CHAPTER's best weapon is early speed and he may have a clear path to the front from this spot. (5) TORRONE gets Bartlett to drive in his local return.

Race 5: F&M NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) MAN DONTFORGET ME continues to frustrate me but now she seemingly has no excuse from this spot. I assume Brennan will be looking to control these. (4) MISS DOTTIE MAE is in a spot where she can utilize her early speed and should be in line for a live trip. (5) CHERYLS SHADOW also drops and can leave the gate fast, but could be at a tactical disadvantage with #4 to her inside.

Race 6: F&M NW20961 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) EASY TO PLEASE has done well in the earnings department so far this season and if she's within striking distance late she can get it done at a fair price. (6) MY AUGUST MOON A is fresh stock from Down-Under for Shane Tritton but she was outfinished late in a couple of those qualifiers. Does she get overbet here? (1) HELLO YES HI wired a softer field last week for Burke and figures to be on the lead again or right in behind.

Race 7: F&M NW30000 in last 5 starts Pace

(1) KARMA SEELSTER took a couple of weeks off after racing in all the Matchmaker legs and the final and now she returns facing a bit softer from the rail. Adamcazyk trainee deserves top billing. (5) GOLDEN QUEST N was very sharp in her first start for the Alexander barn and goes for four straight, but loses Bartlett to the Engblom trainee (#7). (4) DELITFULCATHERIN N has tailed off and now loses her regular driver, but she figures to be a healthy price here and could make some late noise with a ground-saving trip.

Race 8: F&M Invitational Pace

I'm going to guess that Lachance will be putting (5) LIT DE ROSE in play tonight and the Matchmaker champ will win. Other than that I have little else to add about this five-horse affair which is difficult to predict.

Race 9: F&M NW15000 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) SALE EL SOL raced every week in the Matchmaker and didn't do much. Barn change to Devita and Holland picks up the drive. Maybe. (4) UPTOWN HANOVER finished close last start and fits well with these. (1) TRUE BLUE HANOVER blew away a softer field after making little impact herself in the Matchmaker; she's a speed threat from the rail.

Race 10: NW7500 in last 5 starts Trot

(4) BLUEBIRD BISHOP was saddled with brutal posts in her three starts since the move to the Engblom barn. Drop in class, move inside and switch to Bartlett should make him tough in the finale. (2) DIAMANTE TRIO IT dropped and popped last start, maybe built up some confidence. (1) DONATO PATRIOT K returns locally off three decent efforts at The Meadowlands but note he broke at odds-on in a start here last month.
