Yonkers: Analysis for Friday 4/1

Matt Rose|Mar 30, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 87 - 282 / $427.20 (-$136.80)

BEST BETS: 16 - 26 / $56.90 (+$4.90)

Best Bet: I'M SOME GRADUATE (1st)

Spot Play: MAGICAL JOURNEY (9th)

Race 1: NW10000 in last 5 starts Pace

(6) I'M SOME GRADUATE was a recent $75K claim by the Dowse barn and he raced well in two of three starts at that level for these connections. Tonight he plunges in class to NW10000 and while he faces some decent competition I don't see how he loses. (3) TURBO HILL went a good effort in defeat coming off a lame scratch and he can certainly build off that effort. (1) BIG SIR has also been racing okay with better and he's in line for a good trip; he is off a bit of time, however.

Race 2: $20,000 Claiming Pace

(1) IT'SGOODTOBEDAKING takes a needed drop in claiming price, draws well for good connections and seems more than capable of awakening. (3) CAROLINA MAGIC was on the shelf for an extended period of time before resurfacing at Pocono, where he likely tightened up with those three recent starts. Laterza trainee could make some noise here at a decent price. (5) TEXAS TERROR N goes for Jenn Bongiorno now off the claim and this is the fourth barn the 14-year-old has been in this season. He's been unable to convert at this level, however.

Race 3: 3-5YO $30,000 Claiming Pace

(8) KEYSTONE DASH is 20/1 morning line from the eight hole but this field isn't particularly strong and the Dowse trainee did show some forward progress last week. Will Bartlett try to blast? I guess I'll look like a genius if this guy can convert. (3) REMEMBER THE BEACH flashed some early speed off the gate last start but was unable to sustain a second move once relegated to the three-hole. Maybe only making one move can help his cause. (2) HURRIKANEKINGJAMES has just one win over the last two years but has been knocking on the door.

Race 4: Blue Chip Matchmaker Mare FFA Leg #3 Pace

(4) MISS YOU N took care of business last week when bet down to odds-on favoritism. She can repeat with similar handling from Dexter Dunn. (6) DRAMA ACT was a bit passively driven last start and ended up with too much ground to cover from third over. Will Brennan revert to speed tactics tonight? (2) KEEP ROCKIN A was very disappointing last week considering how good she looked in round one of the series.

Race 5: NW15375 in last 5 starts Trot

(3) BIG NUDGE trotted evenly in behind some good ones last start and now he gets an important drop in class to a more competitive level. Gelding seems primed for a big effort. (2) NEXTROUNDSONME always seems to race well when drawn inside and he’ll be in line for a good trip here. (1) EYE OFA TIGER AS returned to the winner's circle against a notch lesser last week with a good steer by Marcus Miller and he drives the classy veteran again.

Race 6: Blue Chip Matchmaker Mare FFA Leg #3 Pace

(1) THE BETHINATOR moves all the way inside and is in a spot where Tetrick can control the action if he wants. Virgil Morgan, Jr trainee could be tough to catch. (5) BLUE IVY proved last week she can never be counted out as she put in a solid uncovered try holding for second. (2) KARMA SEELSTER entered the Matchmaker coming off a big winning effort in an Open event but she's disappointed a bit in the first two legs.

Race 7: 3-5YO $50,000 Claiming Pace

(5) BOLT OF LUCK was an easy winner last week in an age-conditioned event and while he steps up in price he meets no killers in here and seems more than capable of repeating. (6) KEYSTONE NOLAN went a big effort in defeat off the Spaccarelli reclaim and he looks like the main threat but drawing outside of the top one could make things more difficult. (4) ROLLING WITH SAM has some pretty ugly recent lines but he does land a much-improved post in his second try at this level.

Race 8: Blue Chip Matchmaker Mare FFA Leg #3 Pace

(7) RACINE BELL showed that she's back in top form with last week's dominating front-end performance. She can easily repeat despite drawing outside again. (3) SCARLETT HANOVER was favored over the top one last week but was no match, and all out to hold second. 4-year-old Burke trainee doesn't figure to turn the tables tonight but can be second best again. (4) MAN DONTFORGETME closed very willingly in her last two and now Dunn picks up the drive with Bartlett handling the top choice.

Race 9: NW30000 in last 5 starts Trot

(3) MAGICAL JOURNEY broke in his last two races but Bartlett qualified him sharply at Pocono with the hobbles added, one of my favorite angles. (7) HILLEXOTIC needed that recent start at The Meadowlands coming off the bench and now he debuts for the Burke barn and gets Brennan in the bike. Trotter should be ready to fire. (1) ROCK OF CASHEL was second best last week and the veteran should land a share from this spot.

Race 10: NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) SWEET TRUTH is by no means a winning machine but he's sustained his run nicely in his last two starts and should offer the best price of the main contenders. (7) KILOWATT KID N took plenty of money last start when dropped in class but he flattened after a long trip. Harmon trainee drops in class again but is also stuck outside again. (1) WARDAN EXPRESS A also drops and moves all the way inside, but without much current form. He does figure to improve, however.

Race 11: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) PASSA GRILLE BEACH dominated a soft bunch last week and seems good enough to repeat facing a notch better. (4) WHITE HAIR ROCKS put in back-to-back big efforts back in February but was popped for failing a post-race test in one of them. He's back now to face a bit softer coming off a winning qualifier. (5) PADUKA N shows a recent third facing $75K claimers but he did fail badly at this level two back. Bartlett gets the drive tonight.
