Yonkers: Analysis for Friday 1/28

Matt Rose|Jan 26, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 13 - 54 / $68.10 (-$39.90)

BEST BETS: 3 - 5 / $9.60 (-$0.40)

Best Bet: MACH TIME N (10th)

Spot Play: QUALITY BUD (5th)

Race 1: NW7500 in last 5 starts Pace

(4) OUR MAX PHACTOR N should be able to make an easy lead from this spot and should prove tough to catch. (1) FLYINGEVENBETTOR N managed to go 0 for 19 last year but the Alagna trainee should be better than that; he's likely to be sitting a stalking trip leaving from the rail slot. (3) WALTER MITTY woke up with a solid effort last out beating a bit cheaper; he's back up in class looking to build on that momentum.

Race 2: $12,500 Claiming Pace

(1) BUGGER BRUISER has controlling speed from the innermost post and probably only has #6 to deal with early. (6) FASHIONONTHEBEACH rebounded with a better effort last start and the Dowse trainee looks second best. (3) ARI ALLSTAR was awful last week as the favorite; prior to that this veteran finished third in four of his last five starts.

Race 3: $20,000 Claiming Pace

(1) WINDSONG JACK has been as consistent as they come in all recent outings and the classy veteran is clearly the one to beat; only knock on him is the 28 days off. (2) TERRITORY backed up badly last start but his prior efforts facing better weren't awful; can he turn things around? (4) LITTLEBITASWAGGER seemed to qualify effectively enough and he can land a small share here.

Race 4: NW20000 in last 5 starts Trot

(3) HILL OF A HORSE added Lasix a couple of starts and the combination of that and the class relief really turned things around for this trotter; he deserves top billing here. (4) FULL RIGHTS was going nowhere last out facing better from the outside off a month; Schnittker trainee should be better tonight. (6) STREET GOSSIP is an interesting shipper for Virgil Morgan Jr. He performed well over the half-mile at Northfield last month.

Race 5: NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(3) QUALITY BUD seemed to be in a good spot last week but they cancelled. Veteran gelding finds another live spot tonight facing a weak group of NW5000 types. (4) WAR DAN DELIGHT N went just 1 for 33 last year and is already an o-fer through two starts this season but he hits the board consistently and the Leonelli trainee seems capable with a live trip. (1) ST LADS NEPTUNE is another camera-shy type but he was decent last start to hit the ticket and he lands another good post.

Race 6: NW30000 in last 5 starts Trot

(4) MOSTINTERESTINGMAN had no chance in his 2022 debut from post eight facing better; classy trotter should head to the front and prove very tough to catch. (3) BIG NUDGE returns locally off a blowout win in Freehold's Preferred and he looked very good in a start here last November. (1) BLUE AND BOLD successfully dropped and popped last week; he's back facing better but should be in line for a good trip for these live connections.

Race 7: 3-5YO $30,000 Claiming Pace

(2) ROCKIN JUKEBOX looked very good in three local starts to close out 2021 and he returns here back in the Peter Tritton barn while drawing well; big chance. (6) KEYSTONE DASH showed major improvement off the barn change to Dowse. (3) KEYSTONE NOLAN is a recent two-time winner at this level for Lachance yet he's often ignored in the wagering.

Race 8: Open Trot

(2) WARRIOR ONE is a bonafide speed threat in this abbreviated field and he figures to get the jump on main rival (1) HAYEK. The latter has one solid move and if he minds his manners he'll pose a big late threat to the top one. (3) HEY LIVVY has been disappointing up at Mohawk but maybe the change of scenery as she ships back down to Yonkers will help her cause.

Race 9: $20,000 Claiming Pace

(1) SOUTHWIND ONYX missed some time before his seasonal debut so that may be an excuse why the Cory Stratton trainee came up a bit short. He figures to be tighter tonight. (4) CARRACCI HANOVER likely picked up some confidence when he dropped to the bottom level and picked up the upset win; freelegged pacer does have plenty of back class. (2) TIME OUT I'M TIRED drops below the level of the claim three back which I believe makes him a bit of a risky play.

Race 10: $15,000 Claiming Pace

(2) MACH TIME N was much the best on the barn change to Dilloian and the bump up to the $15K level shouldn't present a problem. (8) TEXAS TERROR N had taken three straight at the bottom level then gave way on the lead facing $20's; 14-year-old war horse splits the difference as he's entered for $15K and he's got the early speed to overcome the bad post. (3) NEXT BIG THING returns locally and he did have two wins here last year.
