Yonkers: Analysis for Friday 10/14

Matt Rose|Oct 12, 2022
Yonkers Logo 1.5

MEET STATS: 355 - 1010 / $1,785.30 (-$234.70)

BEST BETS: 56 - 95 / $212.40 (+$22.40)

Best Bet: DELAYED HANOVER (4th)

Spot Play: GLENGARRY KNIGHT N (1st)

Race 1: NW5000 in last 5 starts Pace

(5) GLENGARRY KNIGHT N has been toiling for a couple of months now but we are talking about a veteran pacer who has some class to him (with over $200K earned the last two seasons) so a wakeup is expected eventually. Bartlett gets the call tonight. (3) SOUTHWIND MOROCCAN hails from low-percentage connections but has been knocking on the door for some time. (4) MARLBANK ROAD has won at this level in the past, needs a live setup.

Race 2: NW7851 in last 5 starts Pace

(6) TOM ME GUN N doesn't land a particularly good post but he does fit neatly at this level after being a bit overmatched facing claimers; leading driver Bartlett is listed and he figures to be a good price in this wide-open field. (1) MACHEASY A is logical from this spot, dropping and drawing best, but won't offer much value. (5) LEVINE charged home from last at a big price last week and just missed; owner Scott Zeron is back in the bike and he can be a player with a live trip.

Race 3: $25,000 Claiming Pace

(2) SIMPLE KINDA MAN makes his local return and is dropped in for $25K while getting major post relief. Kakaley picks up the catch drive and in this competitive event I'll consider him if the price is good enough. (4) MARTY MONKHOUSER A hasn't won in the last couple of months but the oldtimer's early speed usually sets him up with good trips. (8) ALWAYS AT MY PLACE has been unable to replicate that dominating win three back when he returned from Indiana but he drops back to that level of that score and I'm sure Bartlett will be on the move early.

Race 4: NW15000 in last 5 starts Trot

(6) DELAYED HANOVER failed to get involved last start but he did finish with good trot to pick off a few and land a small share, much to the delight of his backers I'm sure. I'll hope for a more aggressive attempt tonight. (2) ALTUS HANOVER gets major post relief and seems to fit okay with these; trotter can definitely spice up the exotics. (3) EPOS OSTERVANG DK got a big driver upgrade to Bartlett for his last start but never got close; he drives again from a better post and can't be overlooked.

Race 5: $15,000 Claiming Pace

(2) WINDSONG JACK rallied well to be second best in his latest start but the winner had scampered clear of the field. Classy veteran is sitting at $999,028 in career earnings and can make a splash reaching that milestone with a win here. (4) IAMMRBRIGHTSIDE N double-drops in class to half the price he was claimed for looking to awaken. Use caution. (3) PACING MAJOR N hasn't really worked out for his current barn but he does gets much-needed post relief.

Race 6: NW20000 in last 5 starts Trot

(3) STEUBEN HANOVER moves from claimers to this conditioned event and the Burke trainee has been a consistent board threat, including his last start where he overcame a break to finish well. He may be just a smooth trip away from a win. (2) SMALLTOWNTHROWDOWN drops, moves inside and looks like the one to catch. (5) BARN HALL has underwhelmed since arriving but the talent is there.

Race 7: $20,000 Claiming Pace

(5) GIVENUPDREAMING makes his second start at this reduced claiming level after closing mildly from the eight hole for a small piece last out. He gets some post relief and Boyd gets the drive again; not impossible for this classy veteran to find a way to beat these. (2) TWIN B SPEED DIAL has been in solid form and certainly is logical from this inside post. (6) UPTOWN FUNK is far removed from his big 2021 season and he drops in price looking to recapture some of that glory. His start three back, the first in 10 months, was good.

Race 8: NW30000 in last 5 starts Trot

(5) ON HIGHER GROUND was a solid second to Lean Hanover last week and a similar effort to that one can get the job done; Joe B. is back driving. (3) HOMER HALL has really found his stride in his last three. (2) HAT TRICK MARLEAU has quietly been in solid form and he faces a softer here from a better post.

Race 9: $40,000 Claiming Pace

(1) ALOTBETTOR N was outfinished last week but that was his first start after a sick scratch and prior to that he had been racing very well. Veteran pacer lands inside again and deserves top billing. (7) EL JACKO N is a rare Dowse trainee that isn't functioning that well so he drops in class and that could help; watch the board and look at will-pays. (2) LYONS JOHNNYJNR has tailed off after a promising local debut but he does draw well and Kakaley returns.
