ELMONT, N.Y. – It was a cloudy, rainy, chilly Thursday morning in New York, but for jockey Manny Franco, it was a beautiful day as he guided Yellow Agate through a sharp five-furlong workout in 1:00.17 over the Belmont Park main track in preparation for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 5 at Santa Anita. Yellow Agate, on whom Franco won the Grade 1 Frizette on Oct. 8, worked shortly after 9 a.m. as light rain was falling. Breaking from the half-mile pole, Yellow Agate started about 1 1/2 lengths behind the 2-year-old maiden filly Montrachet and tracked her through an opening quarter in 23.80 seconds. Yellow Agate came up alongside Montrachet past the eighth pole, and the pair came to the wire in 47.21 seconds. They went their final eighth in 12.96 and galloped out six furlongs in 1:14.73. “She worked awesome,” Franco said. “I was just sitting on her. She was dragging me all the way. She galloped out pretty good, too. I’m very happy. I can’t wait till that day. I think I got a good chance with that filly.” Christophe Clement, still in search of his first Breeders’ Cup victory – he’s 0 for 29 – caught Yellow Agate shading a minute. He sees the filly improving with each breeze. “She’s more and more mature; you can see it in her works,” Clement said. “She settled the first part, she comes out at the quarter pole, finishes nicely. She’s becoming more and more mature, which is great. She’s only had two starts. She’s still learning.” :: Breeders’ Cup Challenge: Results, replays, charts, and more Also working Thursday for the Juvenile Fillies were Jamyson ‘n Ginger and Colorful Charades, who went five furlongs in 1:01.21 together shortly after 7 a.m. for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. The two went pretty much together through fractions of 13.15, 25.02, and 36.61 and got their last quarter in 24.60. Jamyson ‘n Ginger, under exercise rider Jose Mejia, was on the inside and working much easier than Colorful Charades, who was on the outside under Gustavo Rodriguez, who is the assistant to his brother. “I had to tap her a little bit,” Gustavo Rodriguez said of Colorful Charades. “But I have 20 pounds more than Jose. We’re very happy with the way they breezed.” In her third career start, Jamyson ‘n Ginger won a one-mile maiden race at Belmont in the mud by 15 1/4 lengths on Oct. 9, earning a 103 Beyer Speed Figure, the highest for a 2-year-old this year. Rudy Rodriguez said Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride Jamyson ‘n Ginger, and Luis Saez will ride Colorful Charades in the Juvenile Fillies. Haveyougoneaway finishes well in breeze Haveyougoneaway, a winner of three consecutive races, including the Grade 1 Ballerina, worked four furlongs in 50.08 seconds over the Belmont main track Thursday in preparation for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. After going an easy opening quarter, Haveyougoneaway got her final quarter in 23.51 seconds. She then galloped out five-eighths in 1:02.50 and six furlongs in 1:15.46. “Best eighth of the whole thing was her first eighth galloping out,” trainer Tom Morley said. “I thought she looked electric as she went through the wire.” Haveyougoneaway is scheduled to ship to California on Sunday and will not do a whole lot of training at Santa Anita, Morley said. Morley hopes to have John Velazquez ride Haveyougoneway. However, Velazquez will ride Curalina if she runs in the Filly and Mare Sprint instead of the Distaff. He thought he had Florent Geroux as a replacement rider for Haveyougoneaway, but Geroux has picked up a mount for the Filly and Mare Sprint, Morley said. Morley mentioned Frankie Dettori and Kendrick Carmouche as possible replacements for Velazquez. Carmouche has won twice on Haveyougoneaway, including the Grade 2 Honorable Miss. Filly and Mare Sprint pre-entrant Paulassilverlining was credited with a five-furlong move in 1:04 by Belmont training track clockers on Thursday. Paulassilverlining worked in the dark at 5:30 a.m. Joking works for Sprint Joking, a winner of four consecutive races, including the Grade 1 Vosburgh, worked five furlongs in 1:00.50 late Thursday morning over the Belmont Park training track in preparation for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Under exercise rider Bobby Messina, Joking rolled away from the pole, went his first three furlongs in 35.78 seconds, and came home his final quarter in 24.72. He really didn’t gallop out. “He breezed easy – perfect,” Messina said. “He starts to take off with me around the turn.” Trainer Charlton Baker was at Finger Lakes on Thursday and will meet up with Joking in California early next week.
