Yell captures Raven Run

Yell, competing outside of Grade 1 company for the first time since February, asserted her class Friday at Keeneland when she surged to victory in the Grade 3, $174,450 Raven Run Stakes.

Trained by Shug McGaughey and ridden by Pat Day, Yell drew clear in deep stretch of the seven-furlong Raven Run to win by 2 1/2 lengths over Ebony Breeze. Tina Bull, who led most of the way, finished another three-quarters of a length back in third in the field of 12 3-year-old fillies.

Yell, a homebred A.P. Indy filly owned by Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider, finished in 1:21.75 over a fast track and returned $5 as favorite.

One race earlier, Bonapaw ($7.80), ridden by Larry Melancon, led throughout to win a $58,000 allowance race at 6 1/2 furlongs. The win was the first for the 7-year-old gelding since he captured the Grade 1 Vosburgh last year.
