Yearly Report wins Stonerside with track-record performance

Mary Rampellini|Oct 30, 2004

Yearly Report set a track record at Lone Star Park on Friday when she stormed to a 9 1/4-length victory in the $150,000 Stonerside, covering seven furlongs in a blazing 1:20.67. The race, for 3-year-old fillies, was one of three stakes on the card as part of Lone Star's build-up to the Breeders' Cup. Attendance for the program was 25,015.

Earlier on the card, Pollard's Vision won the Grade 3, $250,000 Lone Star Derby, and Silent Overdrive captured the $150,000 Refrigerator Handicap for Quarter Horses.

Yearly Report ($2.80) broke well in the Stonerside, and pushed pacesetter Time for Etbauer through an opening half-mile in 43.84 seconds. Yearly Report took command of her rivals at the top of the stretch, and went on to lower the previous seven-furlong mark of 1:20.98, set by Clooney in 2001.

"I didn't think she came close to running that fast, and the scary thing is I guess she could have run a whole lot faster," said Jerry Bailey, who rode Yearly Report for trainer Bob Baffert.

Yearly Report returned on 13 days' rest for the Stonerside because of how well she came out of a second-place finish in the $150,000 California Cup Matron on Oct. 16.

"Actually the next couple of days she was pretty full of herself," said Baffert. "We thought, we'll bring her to Texas."

Baffert said the filly would be pointed for the La Canada series at Santa Anita. The first race in the series, the Grade 1 La Brea, is usually run in late December.

Yearly Report earned $90,000 for her win in the Stonerside, which was her fifth win in a stakes and her sixth win overall from nine career starts. Her earnings now stand at $835,900. Yearly Report, who is a daughter of General Meeting, races for Golden Eagle Farm.

Homemaker finished second to Yearly Report at 49-1. It was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third to Angelica Slew. Homemaker paid $18.60 to place, and the 7-6 exacta returned $77.20.

In the $150,000 Refrigerator Handicap, Silent Overdrive ($6.20) rallied for a half-length victory over Gray Invasion. With the win, Silent Overdrive earned a berth into the Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos. Jockey Alvin Brossette rode the winner for trainer Janet VanBebber.

Handle on the afternoon's 11-race program was $6,365,758.
