Wrenice upset at Delta

Mary Rampellini|Jan 27, 2007

Magnetic Miss prevented 1-5 favorite Wrenice from winning her sixth straight race, when she darted to a length and a half win in the $50,000 Genesis on Friday night at Delta Downs. Wrenice rallied for second in what was her two-turn debut, finishing a neck in front of pacestter Speedy Diva.

Magnetic Miss ($10) stalked Speedy Diva, who set fractions of 23.53 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.73 for the half-mile mark, and 1:14.44 for the six furlongs in the 6 1/2-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies. Magnetic Miss overtook the leader in the stretch, and covered the distance over a fast track in 1:21.34. Kirk LeBlanc rode the winner for trainer Joseph Broussard.

The win was the fourth for Magnetic Miss from seven career starts. It was also her second career stakes win. She also won the Showtime Deb at Hawthorne Race Course. Magnetic Miss has now earned $137,025. She races for Richard Rudolph and Michael Vranich.

Wrenice raced about four lengths off the pace in third early in the Genesis, and in the later stages overtook Speedy Diva. Wrenice had won five straight races by a combined 40 lengths heading into the Genesis.
