World record-setter's reserve not met

One Hot Wish, who set a world record of 48.87 seconds for 4 1/2 furlongs in a wire-to-wire victory last Thursday at Keeneland, failed to reach her reserve Tuesday on a final bid of $300,000 at Keeneland's 2-year-old sale in Lexington, Ky.

A 2-year-old daughter of Bring the Heat and Wish for a Jeanne (by Roar), One Hot Wish returned to owners Robert Tanklage and Wesley Ward. One Hot Wish, offered as Hip No. 227, was nominated to the sale late after her world-record performance and sold as the first horse through the ring.

Tom Van Meter, whose Eaton Sales agency consigned the filly, said that her owners planned to keep her and race her.

"She'll have some time off, and you'll probably see her in Del Mar," Van Meter said. Van Meter said buyers had been concerned about conformation problems in filly's left front leg.
