Working on a holiday

Bill Hodtwalker|Sep 01, 2007

First Class Brass will attempt to keep a holiday win streak alive when he faces four others in the $10,000 Labor Day Stakes going 6 1/2 furlongs at Columbus.

First Class Brass, trained by Kelli Martinez, took the State Fair Board Handicap at Lincoln on July 4 for his second win of the year. He comes into the Labor Day Stakes off a second to Tepexpan in the $50,000 Omaha Stakes going one mile at Horsemens Park on July 22. First Class Brass has been in fine form this year, with his only off-the-board effort in six starts coming in the Budweiser Tondi Stakes at Fonner Park this spring.

Power Sweep Left and Chasin the Wind should provide the pace in this field, while Skwhirl comes into this race off a strong late-running win in the Amadevil Stakes here on Aug. 11. Power Sweep Left will be ridden by Dennis Collins, who rode six winners on Friday night's card.
