Work All Week, 2014 BC Sprint and Eclipse Award winner, dies after paddock accident
Work All Week, the 2014 Breeders' Cup Sprint winner and Eclipse Award divisional champion, died Monday, Nov. 13. The 14-year-old Illinois-bred gelding suffered a paddock accident that proved fatal at Old Friends in Georgetown, Ky., where he had been living in retirement since 2020.
Work All Week was bred and campaigned by Midwest Thoroughbreds and trained throughout his career by Roger A. Brueggemann. He put together a record of 19-13-4-1 and earned more than $1.5 million. His seven career stakes victories were highlighted by two graded stakes scores in the fall of 2014. He first was a front-running winner of the Grade 3 Ogden Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland. A month later, he held off defending winner Secret Circle in the Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita to secure his Eclipse trophy.
Work All Week was retired after his 2015 season, and became a stable pony for several years until moving into retirement at Old Friends.
