Woodbine: Willow Bunch wires

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Willow Bunch ($5.10) made all the running over a sloppy track in the $162,375 La Lorgnette Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

Willow Bunch set fractions of 24.42 and 48.90 seconds while running in the two-path under jockey Patrick Husbands. The favorite, One Only Knows, pressed the pace along the rail, and was angled into the three-path heading into the far turn.

Willow Bunch began to draw off after three-quarters in 1:14.30, and then coasted home on top by four lengths, in a final time of 1:46.79. One Only Knows held off a closing Curiosity for second in the five-horse field.

Willow Bunch lost her career debut on the grass, but has won each of her three subsequent outings on the main track for owners Jim and Alice Sapara. Trained by Josie Carroll, she earned $109,425 in her stakes debut.
