Woodbine: Ultimate Destiny fires late despite weight in Sir Barton
ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Ultimate Destiny caught Urban Forester on the wire to prevail as the 126-pound highweight in the $125,000 Sir Barton Stakes on Wednesday night at Woodbine.
Ultimate Destiny stalked in fifth as Moonlit Beauty set honest fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route. Urban Forester made a four-wide bid for the lead coming off the far turn before taking control in midstretch, but then Ultimate Destiny came storming down the outside to win by a head in 1:43.18. She paid $6.20.
Pender Harbour, the even-money favorite, finished another 1 1/2 lengths back in third in the seven-horse field.
Eurico Da Silva rode Ultimate Destiny, who banked $75,000 for owner-trainer Alec Fehr.
“I just wanted him to be comfortable, because he was carrying 126,” Da Silva said. “I wanted him to run on his pace. I let him be comfortable and do what he wants to do. He’s a professional horse.”
