Woodbine trifecta takeout going down

Woodbine's trifecta takeout for the upcoming Thoroughbred meeting will be 25 percent, down 2 percent from last year.

Woodbine Entertainment Group, in a message sent to account-holders in its HorsePlayer Interactive program, announced the reduction on Friday.

The trifecta takeout includes a 4-percent levy that goes to Ontario's Thoroughbred Improvement Program, which in turn contributes to purses and owner and breeder incentives. An additional .8 percent of every $1 wagered is earmarked for the federal government and .5 percent for the provincial government.

The improvement program's levy on other wagers is 2 percent.
