Woodbine: Spadina Road rallies to win Kingarvie Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Spadina Road mowed down the favored Asserting Bear in deep stretch to notch his first stakes win Saturday at Woodbine in the $125,000 Kingarvie.
Spin the King set honest fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route for Ontario-sired 2-year-olds, as Iron Wolf and Asserting Bear took up the chase. Asserting Bear hit the front early in the lane and seemed headed for a workmanlike win before Spadina Road came charging on the outside from fourth to prevail by three-quarters of a length, in 1:46.06.
Spin the King faded to third in a field reduced to eight with the scratches of Man Cave and Coltimus Prime, who are entered in Sunday’s Display Stakes.
Spadina Road ($10.10) was the third winner on the card for both jockey Eurico Rosa Da Silva and trainer Bob Tiller. He earned $75,000 for owner Rolph Davis, who paid $77,000 for him as a yearling.
