Woodbine: Rootham Triple E’s heads Wednesday sprint

Ron Gierkink|Nov 12, 2012

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainer Sam DiPasquale has fared okay in recent Woodbine stakes. He lost the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion by a whisker with longshot Youcan’tcatchme, and had another longshot, Pure Blue Sky, finish fifth in the Maple Leaf.

DiPasquale sent out the runner-up in the Oct. 13 Fanfreluche, Rootham Triple E’s, who heads the featured second race on Wednesday, a six-furlong allowance for Ontario-sired 2-year-old fillies.

Rootham Triple E’s was a prominent second when she debuted in a six-furlong maiden special Aug. 10. She subsequently finished a fading sixth in the 6 1/2-furlong Muskoka, a stakes for graduates of local yearling sales.

Rootham Triple E’s graduated on the lead in a five-furlong maiden special Sept. 22. She set the pace in $150,000 Fanfreluche before giving way late to Surtsey in the six-furlong sprint for Ontario-breds, earning a 60 Beyer Speed Figure.

Rootham Triple E’s’ journeyman jockey, Richard Dos Ramos, is a solid 5 for 22 at the meet when he rides for DiPasquale.

Seaboa hasn’t started since earning her diploma third time out July 28. She put away two rivals on the front end in that five-furlong maiden special en route to a 2 1/2-length tally over Crysta’s Court, who eventually won the Victorian Queen Stakes in an upset.

Seaboa has worked extensively during her vacation for the capable layoff trainer Bob Tiller, who will give Steve Bahen a leg up.

Good to Be Lucky wired $20,000 maidens in a romp under Jesse Campbell last Wednesday, earning a 52 Beyer Figure in that six-furlong dash. She was previously a minor player in Ontario-sired maiden company.

Jean’s a Lady missed the break before closing for third when she debuted over six furlongs Sept. 8. A month later, she pressed a moderate pace en route to a neck victory in a seven-furlong maiden special, when she registered a 54 Beyer.

In this field with ample speed, Jean’s a Lady will likely make her move from somewhere off the pace, under the patient David Moran.

Impressive Hailey, who drew post 1, is another off-the-pace possibility. She came four wide from a stalking position to graduate at second asking in a six-furlong maiden special Oct. 19. She was previously second to Rootham Triple E’s after another wide journey.

Silver Shasa has made all four of her starts on the dirt at Fort Erie, where she captured a maiden special dash in the slop Oct. 28. Ring of Luck has struggled since beating Ontario-sired maidens this past July in her third start.
