Woodbine preview: Intriguing first-time turfers
Wednesday, June 18 preview
The temporary rail will be in lane 2 for the two turf races on the eight-race card, which is made up of maiden and claiming events.
Miss Giacomo is an inviting 9-2 on the morning line for the third race and should make some noise if the six-furlong dash for $40,000 females remains on the grass. She’s dropping off a fade job in her season opener, a first-level on the Polytrack, and is a three-time winner over the local turf. Regular rider Skye Cherntez will get a leg up from trainer Dave Cotey on the 5-year-old.
In the fourth, a 1 1/16-mile maiden special, there are two runners who are trying the turf for the first time and have good pedigrees for the surface. I Am Who I Am, a son of Sligo Bay, is a half-brother to three turf winners. Winning Shot, by Giant Gizmo, is the first foal from La Prevoyante Stakes winner Tenjectory.
